Debut author and Vanity Fair film critic Richard Lawson makes your heart stop and time stand still in his extraordinary and life-affirming novel that's perfect for fans of If I Stay and We All Looked Up. In the hours after a bridge collapse rocks their city, a group of Boston teenagers meet in the waiting room of Massachusetts General Hospital: Siblings Jason and Alexa have already experienced enough grief for a lifetime, so in this moment of confusion and despair, Alexa hopes that she can look to her brother for support. But a secret Jason has been keeping from his sister threatens to tear the siblings apart...right when they need each other most. Scott is waiting to hear about his girlfriend, Aimee, who was on a bus with her theater group when the bridge went down. Their relationship has been rocky, but Scott knows that if he can just see Aimee one more time, if she can just make it through this ordeal and he can tell her he loves her, everything will be all right. And then there's Skyler, whose sister Katethe sister who is more like a mother, the sister who is basically Skyler's everythingwas crossing the bridge when it collapsed. As the minutes tick by without a word from the hospital staff, Skyler is left to wonder how she can possibly move through life without the one person who makes her feel strong when she's at her weakest. In his riveting, achingly beautiful debut, Richard Lawson guides readers through an emotional and life-changing night as these teens are forced to face the reality of their pasts...and the prospect of very different futures.

Well, that was . . . about four hours of my life I won‘t get back. Am I just becoming less tolerant of teen drama, or were the characters poorly developed, or was the writing kind of surface? I don‘t have specific answers, but this wasn‘t as good as all the hype I had read indicated it would be. The diversity in the characters was in little more than name. Very disappointing.

Continuing in my quest to read off my TBR; I think this has been on my shelf for over a year. Seems to have mixed reviews on here, so I‘m interested to see what I think.

Pickpick

Five teenagers meet in a waiting room where they wait to hear the fate of loved ones caught in a bridge collapse.

This book is nothing new or earth shattering, but it is a well written, poignant, story of loss, forgiveness, and family. The characters are all believable and fascinating under the high pressure microscope that is a hospital emergency room. A quick, touching read.

The #24in48 readathon continues! I've just passed hour 19 and decided to move to the deck for a change of scenery. My furry little friends were excited to see me, because I always have peanuts for them. 😂

Sace I'm so jealous of you right now. *adds peanuts to grocery list* 6y
GondorGirl @RestlessFickleBookHoarder They knock on my patio door and demand treats. Occasionally they chase guests down the driveway if the offending person doesn't have a peanut to give them. They're ridiculous. 6y

This one had potential but I found the language crude sometimes and some of the back stories repeated themselves.

A group of 5 teens wait in a hospital in Boston to hear news of their loved ones in the hours after a nearby bridge collapses in the middle of the day.

This was ok. Most of the book takes place before the accident (annoying). A range of topics are addressed but not resolved (abusive relationships, drug use, sexual identity). Lawson definitely has potential but it was overshadowed by the clashing teenage emotions, and a profane overuse of “like”.

✨So.. this book came out earlier this month.. I received an ARC of it awhile ago. It honestly didn't really peak my interest, which is why this ARC review it way late. I think it might of been a little bit too hyped up. Most of the characters are just complaining about sh!t I wouldn't even care about if I was in their positions. Overall, all but one MC was unrelatable to me, although some of the side stories were extremely relatable..
2/5 🌟

I'm at my youngest daughter's Lego League competition today. This is the book I brought along to read. The title pretty much sums up my day.
