No Other Duke Will Do
No Other Duke Will Do | Grace Burrowes
7 posts | 6 read | 1 reading | 3 to read
"Grace Burrowes is a romance treasure." -Tessa Dare Julian St. David, Duke of Haverford, is barely keeping his head above water in a sea of inherited debts. Though he has a long-term plan to restore the family finances, his sister has a much faster solution: host a house party for London's single young ladies and find Julian a wealthy bride. Elizabeth Windham has no interest in marriage, but a recent scandal has forced her hand. As much as she'd rather be reading Shakespeare than husband-hunting, she has to admit she's impressed by Julian's protective instincts, broad shoulders, and, of course, his vast library. As the two spend more time together, their attraction is overwhelming, unexpected... and absolutely impossible. With meddling siblings, the threat of financial ruin, and gossips lurking behind every potted palm, will they find true love or true disaster? Bailedbailed

Bailing at about 50% because I'm finding the way an autistic side character is being discussed kind of skin crawling. No thank you!

Thinking about last Sunday and my layover at YVR. Thanks to a good book and Starbucks it was rather pleasant. Today is a do nothing, still on holiday Sunday- hope everyone else is having a happy Sunday!

Pickpick

I am devoting today to reading some of my “in the middle of” books. Just finished this lovely #romantsy that takes place at a house party hosted by Julian , Duke of Haverford. Julian is handsome but he is drowning in debt , Elizabeth Windham is more interested in lending libraries than marriage. Of course sparks fly and problems occur but there‘s a happy ending 💕💕😀

I was listening to the latest episode of the new podcast When in Romance, and they discussed coverage of romance by non-romance readers. If you're a #romantsy reader, you might have noticed the coverage is often not great. Sometimes people think we should be embarrassed by what we read. I resolved last year to not let others shame me or make me feel like I shouldn't talk about reading romance (or read it in public). So far, it's been freeing.

CocoReads I‘ve come to that conclusion too. I‘m 47 freaking years old and I‘m gonna read what I wanna read with no apologies. 😄❤️😍 6y
Bostonmomx2 Absolutely read what makes you happy. 6y
theresidentromantic I hit that thing past January, I'm struggling with it. But I'm realizing it's like putting myself down when I try to make excuses for the genre I love with all my heart. So I'm with you, totally ❤ I'm working on getting a romance review blog up today :) 6y

dylanisreading @CocoReads Yes!! 🤘❤ 6y
LauraBrook I was just thinking the same thing! Since I‘m new to the genre (just started reading It the last 2 years), and loving it, it‘s making me want to resuscitate my much-neglected blog and do reviews again. I‘d read romance in public, but I worry a little with my job (massage therapist) that some ppl may get the wrong idea, you know? 6y
dylanisreading @theresidentromantic That's a great point. I still have to remind myself to stop caring what people, especially other readers, might think. Congratulations on launching the blog! Please share the link when it's ready. I'd love to check it out. I have a little romance review blog as well, though I update it more sporadically than I should. 6y
dylanisreading @LauraBrook I hadn't even thought of that. That's tricky. I'm not a massage therapist, and I have yet to do any leisurely reading of paper books at work (no time). I have been listening to the audio book of a romance novel but with earbuds because steamy scenes. You should definitely resuscitate your blog! I have a romance book blog, but I haven't been updating it with reviews the way I should lately. I need someone to kick my butt to do that. 🤣 6y
Shaila Well said! I am unapologetically a romance fan! ❤❤❤ 6y
Shaila @LauraBrook I totally know what you mean! My day job is in pediatrics, so I have to be careful. That's why I love my Kindle! 😄 6y
LauraBrook @Bianca Very good point on doing audio for romance! I did listen to a steamy scene on audio in my car once - too bad I stopped at a light with the windows down. The man in the truck next to me gave me such a look! 😂 6y
LauraBrook @Shaila Yes, neither of our jobs are romance-cover friendly. I‘ll have to get some more on my kindle, almost all of my romances are mass markets! 6y
Shaila @LauraBrook No, they're not! 😄😄😄 6y
JenniferJarrell I love romance, especially the smutty regency kind, and I am not ashamed. 6y
dylanisreading @LauraBrook Love it! 😂 6y
dylanisreading @JenniferJarrell Yess. Rock on! 🤘 I'm about to go check out your Goodreads to find the titles of some of those smutty regencies. 6y
Loreen 👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼 6y
JenniferJarrell You can‘t go wrong with Anna Campbell 6y
dylanisreading @JenniferJarrell It's funny you say that because I started listening to the audio of What a Duke Dares by her yesterday. 6y
JenniferJarrell Yay! It‘s a good one - enjoy it! 6y
