It seemed like a simple case--before the bodies starting piling up. Investigator Elvis Cole and his partner, Joe Pike, take on the deadliest case of their lives, in the new masterpiece of suspense from the #1 New York Times-bestselling author When single mother Devon Connor hires private investigator Elvis Cole, it's because her troubled teenage son Tyson is flashing cash and she's afraid he's dealing drugs. But the truth is devastatingly different. With two other partners in crime, he's been responsible for a string of high-end burglaries, a crime spree that takes a deadly turn when one of them is murdered and Tyson and his girlfriend disappear. They stole the wrong thing from the wrong man. Determined to get it back, he has hired a team that is smart and brutal, and to even the odds, Cole calls in his friends Joe Pike and Jon Stone. But even they may be overmatched. The hired killers are leaving a trail of bodies in their wake. A few more won't make any difference.

Much to my delight, once I got past the prologue, which I must have read as an excerpt previously, I discovered I hadn‘t read the latest Elvis Cole/Joe Pike book. Hands down one of my favorite ongoing series—love the way Crais writes about LA, love his characters. He is a master at establishing place, writing dialog, & creating a fabulous noir vibe in his mysteries. This one? Desperate mom, daring thieves, stone cold killers, Cole & Pike.❤️❤️❤️

Sun‘s up and so is everyone else which means I‘m back to this awesomeness! Totally getting a Mr. Croup and Mr. Vandemar vibe from two characters in this book and I am loving it!!!

(I‘m sure it seems as if I have the shortest attention span ever but I can‘t be the only reader who has an eBook to read when it‘s dark and I don‘t want to disturb anyone, and paperback to read when it‘s light out?!? Right?!?)

“...fanciful life construction.”

Ha!

I sort of feel I‘ve read this one...but maybe not?!? (Did I get seduced by cover awesomeness into buying a book I already have? Argh! I just don‘t remember!) So, I thought I‘d read a little because if I have read it, I‘ll send it home with someone else whose plane ride will be immensely improved by the addition of this book to their trip.

#LitsyClassics #MayLovesClassics #day6 #Male In the same vein as yesterday, here are four of my favourite male authors. Even though I do have mostly women on my shelves, there are a few men that are auto-buys for me. Robert Crais because I bought a 2ndhand Elvis Cole novel & fell in love, Stephen King because no one scares the crap outta me more, Peter Robinson because DI Banks is such a great character & Whats not to love about Sir Terry!❤️❤️❤️❤️

PickwickPlockPlock RIP Sir Terry, you'll be missed! 6y

My reading has changed and I‘m not a huge fan of mysteries any longer. I‘m sad because I really liked the Elvis Cole books.

1. Here's my cat being deeply unsure about stuffed crookshanks and the neighborhood ducks.
2. Android. I like stuff that works and doesn't break.all the time
3. Depends on the cookie
4. Tagged book, bling ring but gritty with poor kids.

Crais is a reliable read and this one doesn't disappoint. Entertaining and well plotted and the shifts in points of view work for with his story telling. I'm curious as to where Elvis Cole will be doing in his personal life in the coming books.

I love Elvis and Joe - they can rescue me any time! This quote, while from two of the bad guys, struck a chord with me and all that's been going on in the world lately. They're referring to the shower scene in the movie Psycho. Women are so not powerless any more!
