The residents of a quiet Japanese neighborhood have slowly come to realize that inauspicious, paranormal forces are at play in the most unlikely of places: the local playground. Two friends, a young boy and girl, resolve to exorcise the evil that inhabit it, including a snaggle-toothed monster. In Animus, a beautiful but spooky young adult graphic novel of everyday hauntings, Antoine Revoy delivers an eerie tale inspired by the Japanese and French comics of his childhood.

3.5 ⭐
@indoordame - what did I just read. Very Poe like. I liked it, but it was a little all over the place. Thanks for picking it.

@wanderingbookaneer - I'm mailing it out today #LMPBC

LibrarianRyan Okay, I looked up the definition of Animus - and it fits: Hostility or ill feeling, motivation to do something. I was giving it an animal connotation based on the cover. It's still weird though. 2y
IndoorDame That‘s sort of how I felt about it. That one wasn‘t my pick though. I think it may have been @phantomx ‘s? 2y
LibrarianRyan @IndoorDame Oh. Okay. I just got confused by the notes inside. I liked it, but it was no where near what I was expecting. It left so many plot holes ... 2y

IndoorDame @LibrarianRyan definitely. I checked to see if it was translated when I read it and it seemed like it was written in English but inspired by Japanese and French comics the author grew up with, so I figured maybe some of the holes that left me feeling a bit list were just a style I wasn‘t used to… 2y
LibrarianRyan @IndoorDame That could very well be it. 2y
phantomx It was hard to make official notes for this story. I was looking for clues around the story that were keypoints and essential elements that kept coming up in the story, but the mystery threw off my notes afterwhile. Trying to unravel the plot was mind-bending 2y
LibrarianRyan @phantomx it really was. It didn‘t read like a traditional mystery. The more I sit and think about it the more I like it. It was just so unexpected. Especially for what I was getting from the cover. I went in blind. It‘s my favorite way to start. 2y
phantomx I can't wait to see everyone's notes 2y

#LMPBC #Round13 Groups A and P packages are now on their way to @LibrarianRyan and @bibliobard

bibliobard Just in time! 2y
LibrarianRyan Yeah. Can I ask what title it is because I never got any of December titles. I don‘t know if they are lost in the mail or what 2y
IndoorDame This one is Animus. I think it is the December title I just got it out late 2y

bibliobard Hey do you still have tracking info on this? I haven‘t received a package yet (though maybe I should check the apartment office — last time it was in my box though) 2y
IndoorDame @bibliobard I don‘t have a tracking number for that. It was picked up from my home by the mail carrier (I‘ve been under the weather but I‘ve never had a problem with this method before) & the email confirming pickup has a confirmation code, but it‘s not a valid tracking number. I‘d check the apartment office. I got that email on the 3rd, so normally it would have arrived by Friday. @LibrarianRyan did you get yours? since they went out together? 2y
bibliobard @IndoorDame Okay. I will have to wait until tomorrow and see — my apartment‘s mail office is only open M-F. My mail can be weird sometimes though 🤔 I will keep you posted 2y
IndoorDame @bibliobard okay, good. Let me know. 🤞🏼it‘s an easy fix. 2y
LibrarianRyan @IndoorDame I Have it. And it was right on time. It's January's book. I will get it read and get it out, hopefully today or tomorrow. 2y
IndoorDame @LibrarianRyan yay! I‘m happy to hear that. (I actually don‘t have any of the January books yet and have no idea what title I‘m expecting for group A, but it‘s only the 10th and I didn‘t get them till the last week of December last time, so I‘ll just be patient). 2y
bibliobard @IndoorDame So I checked the office and there is no package 😢 I could give it a few more days? 2y
IndoorDame @bibliobard that sounds good. If it doesn‘t show up in a few days I‘ll see what I can do from my end 2y
bibliobard @IndoorDame the novel arrived! 🥳 2y
IndoorDame @bibliobard yay!!! 🎊👏🎉 I‘m sorry it‘s late. Hope you enjoy it. I thought that one was really fun. 2y
IndoorDame @LibrarianRyan just thinking back on this. If Animus is the January title for you then you‘re all caught up. The previous title was Lowriders, and I remember you receiving that one, so it must have been December for you. 2y
LibrarianRyan @IndoorDame it was. I actually got low riders in Nov and mailed it like Dec 3 or something. It‘s my other group that is behind. 2y
IndoorDame @LibrarianRyan got it. Just wanted to check. I try to keep on top of everything, but I do naturally tend towards chaos a tad, so it‘s not out of the question for me to have screwed up 🤣 2y

I feel like it‘s rare that a book completely takes you by surprise, so I was grateful that this one did. That said, I‘m still deciding what I think about it since I found it so unexpected. But since it‘s an #LMPC book my review really aught to be vague anyway, so I have time to decide. 🤣 #WinterGames2021 #TeamGameSleighers #BBRC MG Horror

IndoorDame @LibrarianRyan It still may take me till the end of the month to get this out to you even though I‘m done early, cause I‘m home sick at the moment. I‘ll update you when it goes out. 2y
LibrarianRyan I get that. As you can see, I am just now checking in after being gone a week. It may take me a week to get caught up. Ill read it when it comes in and get it out asap. 2y

I've picked out these for #lmpbc #Round13. I'm really set on reading Garlic and the Vampire--I'm not entirely sure what draws me into to reading frightening books that involve food @LibrarianRyan @WanderingBookaneer @IndoorDame @suvata

LibrarianRyan My vote is for Over the Garden Wall or Animus. We did Nightlights for this section in like Round 8. And I have read Garlic and have just not posted my review. But I will reread if anyone wants. 2y
WanderingBookaneer I haven‘t read any. 2y
carlthecattt I have not read any of these. 2y

WanderingBookaneer 👍🏻 2y
IndoorDame Looks fun! 2y
LibrarianRyan Yeahhhh 2y
phantomx I realized I need to Watch Over the Garden to start reading the first volume , well I have the whole weekend to do it😁 2y
phantomx @WanderingBookaneer @LibrarianRyan @IndoorDame I've had trouble obtaining a copy of Over the Garden Wall, and there aren't used copies to purchase for it. I was thinking of going with Animus OR Life of Melody. They're both categorized as YA; I wanted to get everyone's vote and opinion again about which GN would go with the theme of our group. I've tagged Life of Melody in the comment 2y
WanderingBookaneer 👍🏻 2y
IndoorDame Animus feels more MG to me so I think that‘s my vote, but Life of Melody sounds like a total blast, so if people want to go with that one I‘m down for it 2y
LibrarianRyan I‘m fine either way 2y
IndoorDame Awesome! 2y
