Archangel's Viper | Nalini Singh
21 posts | 18 read | 7 to read
Enter New York Times bestselling author Nalini Singh's breathtakingly passionate Guild Hunter world with the story of a woman who isn't a vampire or an angel . . . or human . . . Once a broken girl known as Sorrow, Holly Chang now prowls the shadowy grey underground of the city for the angels. But it's not her winged allies who make her a wanted woman - it's the unknown power coursing through her veins. Brutalised by an insane archangel, she was left with the bloodlust of a vampire, the ability to mesmerise her prey, and a poisonous bite. Now, someone has put a bounty on her head . . . Venom is one of the Seven, Archangel Raphael's private guard, and he's as infuriating as he is seductive. A centuries-old vampire, his fangs dispense a poison deadlier than Holly's. But even if Venom can protect Holly from those hunting her, he might not be able to save himself - because the strange, violent power inside Holly is awakening . . . No one is safe.

I‘ll admit, I put off reading this one for a LONG time, although I like the series, I was leery about another side character book, & Venom never really gave me the warm & fuzzies. But it turned out to be just the break I needed after a bunch of serious nonfiction & real life stressors. I felt for both of these outcast characters way more than I ever thought I could & rooted for them even as they confronted one of the series‘s biggest mysteries.

kammartinez I didn't feel much one way or the other for Venom when he was first introduced in the series, but after this novel? I have an immense soft spot for him now. Not as big as my soft spot for Dmitri, but a soft spot regardless. 4y
Riveted_Reader_Melissa @kammartinez Honestly, and surprisingly for me, I wasn‘t looking forward to many of the Seven‘s side stories, but Naasir really surprised me, and now Venom too. I guess I have to trust Singh much more with her storytelling. 4y
kammartinez @Riveted_Reader_Melissa Funnily enough, I rather prefer the stories of the Seven to Raphael and Elena's. More to explore there, I guess? Not that there isn't more to explore with Raphael and Elena, I just seem to prefer the Seven to them. And yeah, Naasir's story was lots of fun. Also enjoyed Jason's story, though that's got a lot to do with the court intrigue aspect of that particular novel. 4y

This book occurs at the same time as the last one in the Guild Hunter series and involves Viper & Holly (Sorrow). Holly has improved in the two years since Viper has been away but is still struggling with what Uram did to her. Can Viper & Holly get rid of Uram's madness before it kills her?

I love this series, and while this wasn‘t my fav book (the emotional connection we usually see with her characters was lacking a bit) it was still really good. I need Illiums story though!!! #romantsy #paranormalromance #romance

I experienced something I never have before with a Nalini Singh book, I struggled with the beginning. I didn‘t like Holly. Her banter with Venom really turned me off. I love Ms. Singh‘s writing so I stayed the course and expected greatness. I got really goodness. The ending was too quick. I wanted to enjoy the romance and it felt rushed. The overall story was good and since I love this series, looking forward to the next.

Great story, though slid away from what seemed to be the main plot point about half way through and it seemed a little hastily resolved at the end. That being said, I always love Nalini‘s work. The Guild Hunter world is fantastic and her take on making vampires (I believe?) unique.

Venom is awesome, as are all the other characters we have seen novels devoted to previously, but now we need a story for bluebell and sparkles!

Started this book last night and even less than halfway through, I already know it‘s a pick. At least 4 stars, although I always wait til the end to give the fifth. Complex characters who rise above the bad stuff that happens to them and learn to accept themselves, even turn their personal demons into something that makes them stronger. Plus, snarky senses of humour that just mesh. I‘m rooting for them so hard. #romantsy

Chachic Was this pic from our lunch?😂 7y
willreadforfeels @Chachic: Yes, but I hadn‘t started the book yet. Kept getting put off cause of life and other distractions. 7y

Archangel‘s Viper is the latest in Nalini‘s angels series, where archangels have divided up the world, creating immortal vampires as their servants. This is a love story between two vampires with weird abilities (in the case of the hero, green slitted snaky eyes).I‘m not sure why this series has so much talk of torture, dripping blood, screams, etc. Still, the story is fun & less reliant on previous books in the series than some. #romantsy

melissanorr I've been re-reading the series to get ready for this! I forgot how addictive these books are so I can't wait to read Viper. 7y

Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ of 5 ⭐️s

EEEEEEEE~! It took a while to get to Venom and Holly's story, but I am SO GLAD they finally found their way to each other XD. Enjoyed this more than the last book in the series, but then again I'm more biased to Raphael's Seven than to Raphael himself. Hope Illium's next XD!

Loved it. Nalini took me once again on a rollercoaster of emotions. Holly is such a strong girl. Right until the end I found Venom so annoying but when I found out about his past I changed my mind. Will we see him change, get more mature like Dmitri in the future now that he has Holly and a family? Only time will tell.

I like this series a lot, but I think I like these books that focus on characters other than Raphael and Elena slightly more. They are just a fascinating bunch. Venom was wonderful. We got to see a sad, hidden side to him.
Me and everyone else is shipping Bluebell and Sparkle, right? #romantsy
