New York Times Bestselling Author Wanda E. Brunstetter and Daughter-in-Law, Jean, Weave a Lighthearted Romance from Indiana's Amish Country Living alone for the first time in her life is lonely for Elma Hochstetler, whose twin sister Thelma recently married. Though they share the running of a general store, more and more of Thelma's time is taken up by her growing family. Elma has dated some, but she wonders if she is just too picky to find love. Through a mishap at the farmers' market, Elma meets Ben Wagler and instantly likes him. But there is a problem. He lives in Grabill--50 miles away! But Elma has tried long-distance dating before, and it won't work for her. Besides the store needs her. Her sister needs her. Elma feels love will forever remain beyond her grasp. Elma has a habit of putting others before her own needs. Can she learn to take a risk at following the desires of her heart? How did Thelma meet her husband? Find out in The Lopsided Christmas Cake.

I don't understand Farmers Markets. I'm in New Jersey. Hardly anything is in season. Why am I going to an outdoor market to buy apples that must have travelled a thousand miles to get here and clearly wasn't grown by a local farmer? It all just seems like a big scam.

Soubhiville In TX it's a lot more local- something is always growing here! Plus although I'm vegetarian, my hubby loves getting some local beef or goat- a special treat. I grew up in VT, and there were actual farm stands we'd frequent in the summers, with berries, corn, tomatoes, and my favorite- peas in the pod! I'd eat pounds at a time! (edited) 8y
OhNoMersault That's a bullshit market. Ours in Chicago are only farms within about 100 miles and everything is actually in season. 8y
tpixie I know that's how it is here. Except for the Amish jellies and breads - which are good, but I want veggies and fruit!! 8y

Leelee.reads I think the whole point of farmer's markets is supporting local farmers and vendors. Ours don't allow anything sold that isn't local within a couple driving hours. That means all the produce is incredibly fresh and you are buying meat from the people who raised the animals. Otherwise, you are right, what's the point? 8y
Yossarian @Soubhiville @OhNoMersault @tpixie @Leelee.reads I think this market just operates as a tax on ill informed liberals who don't think beyond "Farmers Market Good!" and don't realize the farmers are going to the grocery store and then doubling the prices. 8y
Chrys We have both versions here. There is a produce stand that obviously imports fruit/veg that I am guessing are not quite perfect enough for the store. But we also have one only on weekends where everything must be from within 120 miles. 8y
JessFerg I beg to differ on the issue of seasonality right now. I agree there can be shady stuff at Farmers' Markets but here in S. Jersey it is def Market season - you could easily make a full table of locally grown strawberries, lettuces, greens, spring garlic, herbs, pea shoots, and asparagus. 8y
JanuarieTimewalker13 I'm so thankful for the Red Bank Farmer's Market, sometimes I find good produce, but honestly, I'm there for Cinnamon Snail Truck. Maple Mustard Tempeh...yum!!🌻 I think it's just a fun outing for people. I've found some bargains on plants, etc. (edited) 8y
josie281 That is silly! Our small farmers market has local things that are in season and honey, mead, beer, cheese, etc. 8y
ChristieStratos There's one in Princeton on Thursdays that's great. All kinds of great produce, jellies, flowers, smoothies, baked goods, and live music too. It's a good one! 8y
