The Crime Book
The Crime Book: Big Ideas Simply Explained | DK
15 posts | 6 read | 32 to read
An essential guide to criminology, exploring the most infamous cases of all time, from serial killers to mob hits to war crimes and more. From Jack the Ripper to Jeffrey Dahmer, The Crime Book is a complete study of international true crime history that unpacks the shocking stories through infographics and in-depth research that lays out every key fact and detail. Examine the science, psychology, and sociology of criminal behavior, and read profiles of villains, victims, and detectives. See each clue and follow the investigation from start to finish, and study the police and detective work of each case. Find out how pirates, the Japanese yakuza, Chinese triads, and modern drug cartels operate around the world. Dive deep into the Black Dahlia murder investigation and follow other high-profile cases, including Lizzie Borden with her ax and the Patty Hearst kidnapping. Learn how media coverage changed through history, from the tragic assassination of President Abraham Lincoln to romanticizing Bonnie and Clyde's doomed fate to the kidnapping and murder of Charles Lindbergh's baby, which is considered the first international crime tabloid story. The Crime Book is a complete compendium for crime aficionados to add to their collection.

Hey all! Sorry I‘ve been spotty at best, but I‘m currently working on my thesis (feat. this picture of Bluestar working!), running a newspaper, trying to graduate, participating in three lab classes, and attempting to maintain a social life. I‘m going to be responding to my #LitsyLove backlog (I‘ve got a TON of letters!) in the next few weeks, so stay tuned!

Eeeks! Now this is a little too complicated... One of those rare moments where you wish you bought the real book instead of the e-book!🤔

"John Orr wanted to be a Los Angeles police officer for a long time. He applied in 1981. He passed all of the tests except one. It was the psychological test."

This is so often the case with serial offenders. Serial killers, and serial arsonists (like John Orr) in particular.

saresmoore This seems impractical. What material is that coat? A whalebone enhanced corset would be a more suitable vessel for gun display, I think. 7y
vivastory @saresmoore it does seem like it'd make someone rather lopsided 7y
javadiva So the book didn't live up to its subtitle? 😋 7y
Hobbinol I hate people who flash their pistol like that. 😊 7y

I adore DK books & their latest is perfect for anyone interested in crime & all of its manifestations (from Ponzi schemes to sadistic serial killers).

saresmoore DK books are the best! I'll be sure to pick this up for my kids' reference library. Wait, no... 7y
vivastory @saresmoore i don't understand your hesitation. Lindbergh baby kidnapping & Elizabeth Bathory's blood baths seem totally family friendly 😂 7y
Sarah83 I saw lately that they are available in Germany now as well. 😄 Which book would you recommend as the first one? 7y

nikki.82 I just got approved for this on NetGalley! Can't wait to start it 😀😀 7y
bates_barb 5 or 6 years ago, I was out running errands, and stopped at a cafe for lunch. I pulled out my purse book to read while I ate, and couldn't figure out why everyone was giving me strange looks. I was halfway through the meal before I realized it was because my purse book at the time was The Poisoner's Handbook 7y
Liberty @bates_barb I love that book! 7y
bates_barb Me too! It was probably not a super appropriate public lunch reading choice, though. 😁 7y
