We Have No Idea
We Have No Idea: A Guide to the Unknown Universe | Jorge Cham, Daniel Whiteson
16 posts | 9 read | 1 reading | 13 to read
Prepare to learn everything we still dont know about our strange, mostly mysterious universe. PHD Comics creator Jorge Cham and particle physicist Daniel Whiteson have teamed up to spelunk through the enormous gaps in our cosmological knowledge, armed with their popular infographics, cartoons, and unusually entertaining and lucid explanations of science. In We Have No Idea, they explore the biggest unknowns in the universe, why these things are still mysteries, and what a lot of smart people are doing to figure out the answers (or at least ask the right questions). While they're at it, they helpfully demystify many complicated things we do know about, from quarks and neutrinos to gravitational waves and exploding black holes. With equal doses of humor and delight, they invite us to see the universe as a vast expanse of mostly uncharted territory that's still ours to explore. This entertaining illustrated science primer is the perfect book for anyone who's curious about all the big questions physicists are still trying to answer. From the Hardcover edition.

This is a book I would like to suggest reading to all of those who keep asking how come scientist don't yet have a cure for cancer or AIDS or a vaccine or treatment for COVID19. It focuses on physics but let me assure you that medicine and pharmaceutical science are at roughly the same spot in most important questions: We also have no idea! 🙄🥺🥺🤯.

Here's a question for publishers: why are there so few #purple books? Today's #riotgrams theme is purple. Here's my purple/pink book stack from my #rainbowshelves . How is this is all I have? I have purple walls, purple blankets, purple #candles, but very few purple books
Please recommend some purple book titles to me!

I really enjoyed this one. It was comical enough to keep my interest, even while learning about topics that can be really dense. I found that some of the illustrations were also actually really helpful to my understanding! It has taken me a while, but first book of 2018!

azulaco This illustration is like looking at my older son three years in the future 😂 6y

Home sick today, and can't even get an appointment for a Walgreens clinic until 6:40 tonight to see if I have the flu! Trying to finish this book in bed in the meantime

rjsthumbelina Thanks. Hopefully the doctor can actually do something, instead of just telling me to let the virus run it's course! 6y

One of my current reads. I really enjoy learning so much about the universe, cause this book isn't difficult, boring or complicated at all. It just makes me wonder and admire the nature and what it's able to do. It's unbelievable. This book is definetely sth for physic haters as well, i am not such a big fan of the subject but of the book totally. 💐✌
