French Leave
French Leave | Anna Gavalda
3 posts | 5 read | 3 to read
A bestselling novel in Europe with over half a million copies sold, published in over twenty-six languages, Anna Gavalda's French Leave is a charming adventure that tells the story of four siblings in search of the happiness they knew as children and the bonds that once united them. Simon, Garance and Lola flee a dull family wedding (and Simon's uptight and judgemental wife) to visit their younger brother, Vincent, who is working as a guide at a château in the heart of the enchanting Tours countryside. For a few hours, they forget about kids, spouses, work, and the many demands adulthood makes upon them and lose themselves in a day of laughter, teasing, and memories. As simply and as spontaneously as the adventure began, it ends. All four return to their everyday lives, carrying with them the magic of their brief reunion. They are stronger now, and happier, for having rediscovered the ties that bind them. Lighthearted, tender and funny, a parable on escaping the past to find the future, French Leave is a tribute to sibling relationships, local Loire wines, and the art of being together.

I posted my #weeklyforecast and then promptly picked up something I hadn‘t intended to read. Story of my life! I am thoroughly enjoying it though. It‘s translated from the French (Gallic is the publisher) and to start with, it was very French feeling. I‘ve adjusted now and am giggling at certain bits and loving the story of these four crazy adult siblings.

Crazeedi That's what I'm afraid I'd do if I tried to forecast my reading for the week!! 4y
BookNAround @Crazeedi It happens to me each week but I do find that forecasting does pull me back to that short stack too so I‘m not flitting from book to book and leaving others that I was excited about reading behind quite as often as I was so it‘s working for me. Also, I try and pull one book off my bedside table and add it to the weekly forecast to help remind me to get back to the temporarily abandoned stuff. 😉 4y
Crazeedi @BookNAround that's a good way to think of it. Nothing set in stone but not wandering around trying to decide what to read next, like I just did today! Lol 4y
Crazeedi @BookNAround I definitely need to attack my unfinished books, ones I do want to read but just havent. I'm thinking for the next 24beforemonday I'm going to read only books I need to finish! 4y
