A Curse Dark As Gold
A Curse Dark As Gold | Elizabeth C. Bunce, Elizabeth Bunce
6 posts | 14 read | 15 to read
The gold thread promises Charlotte Miller a chance to save her family's beloved woolen mill. It promises a future for her sister, jobs for her townsfolk, security against her grasping uncle -- maybe even true love. To get the thread, Charlotte must strike a bargain with its maker, the mysterious Jack Spinner. But the gleam of gold conjures a shadowy past -- secrets ensnaring generations of Millers. And Charlotte's mill, her family, her love -- what do those matter to a stranger who can spin straw into gold? This is an award-winning and wholly original retelling of "Rumplestiltskin."

A beautiful book but for me, a not good retelling😬I tried because the beginning was interesting but then the story was so repetitive about the drama of Charlotte and her family financial situation😱it was on and on. By the time “Rumpelstiltskin” appears again and the story was related with him, I was dying of boredom🥱Maybe I didn‘t understand the story because it won an award, Whaaat?😳2.5⭐️It was a torture to finish it. One book less in my tbr

DieAReader At least it‘s another of the TBR😉 You‘re doing great🎉👏🏻💪🏻 3y

mabell Ha! Winning an award doesn‘t mean it‘s a good book - for sure! 🤣😂 3y
Gissy @mabell That‘s right. This year there are many comments about the books selected for the short list in different awards😳I like to watch some YouTubers reactions. They were judges in the past so I like to see their comments and reactions.

This month I haven't enjoyed much 2 books, this one and Dreamcatcher. But I don‘t regret I read them because I bought them and wanted to read theme, Done✅ 🤗

mabell That‘s a good way to think about it! 3y

StillLookingForCarmenSanDiego @Gissy You might like it more than I did. It might also be that I'm just not that into the whole Rumplestiltskin thing. 3y
Gissy @StillLookingForCarmenSanDiego Well, I will think...”a book less in my tbr...one more book I can buy☺️“ 3y

#BookSpinBingo @TheAromaofBooks #fairytalereadingchallenge @Charityann

This retelling started out slow, but once I got a few chapters in I enjoyed it. The back story for Rumpelstiltskin was different and actually made me feel sorry for him. I also liked that the women in this book were strong, independent, and willing to do whatever necessary for their families.

TheAromaofBooks Ooo may check this one out - I haven't found a read for Rumplestiltskin yet 3y

rubyslippersreads I‘ve had this on my TBR list for awhile, and I need to catch up on this challenge. 3y

#Two4Tuesday @TheSpineView

1. I have with a few nonfiction reads to see the graphs and statistics as I was listening, but typically I don't.
2. I discovered audio books only a few years ago and I love that I can listen while I work. It helps the day go faster. It's also an advantage with some books to hear the proper pronunciation of names and places.

Thank you for the tag @Crazeedi 💞

Addison_Reads The tagged book is my current audiobook I'll be starting today for #fairytalereadingchallenge 3y
TheSpineView I too love having names pronounced correctly. Thanks for playing! 3y

An inventive retelling of Rumplestiltskin that is far more satisfying than the original. I loved it!
