Strong. Female. Character.
Strong. Female. Character. | Rose McAleese
5 posts | 2 read | 12 to read
The Irish aren't the only poets; just the only poets who matter. Fortunately, the Irish attitude comes in all colors, sizes, genders and nationalities. While carrying the entire spectrum of a hundred turbulent peoples draped across the bones of her verse, Rose McAleese remains neither intimidated nor embittered by her plunge into constant future unknowns. This book, by a renowned spoken word poet, marks her graceful, first-time assent to the freezing of her kinetic verbal images into tomorrow's bookshelf treasure. No young American poet more successfully balances naivet against experience, transmutes cynicism with tinctures of romance, or armors her own tenderness with learned ferocity.

Update on my #LitsyAtoZ progress - these are 10 through 14 of 26. It's hard to imagine I'm already halfway through. I loved three of them - do you remember which? 😜

Gezemice Wow you are halfway through? 😳👍 Congratulations! 7y
BarbaraTheBibliophage @Gezemice The beginning will be easier since more spots are open. Harder to fill after this, I think! 7y

Fitting in some feminist poetry. "Positions" was my favorite. #24in48 book 5, closing in on hour 10. #readharder2017

Just 76 pages long, I finished in one sitting. This is gritty, funny, poignant, and quite varied in topics. The poem in the image is called White Man and is one of my favorites. Another is Match and flame, envisioning love letters written by each of them. It's an insight into those millennial women in our lives. 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻

saresmoore Oh, I like this. It's probably because I'm a millennial woman, but still. 7y
BarbaraTheBibliophage @saresmoore I adored it. She is one strong, smart woman. So I bet you'd enjoy it too! 7y

I am in the land of the #Litsymigrainebookclub today. 😰 It's hard to concentrate on novels, let alone nonfiction. But poetry rocks! #LitsyPoetry365

This book was recommended for the #micropress prompt in the @bookriot #readharder challenge. The writer is a young woman who typically performs spoken word, but has now published. Her work is intense and delectable.
