An interesting look at Hemingway and his marriages. He was an awful husband, but this book was good.

melissajayne I really liked the book as well. 2y

My second Hemingway wives book of the week. And although I liked the Paula McLain more, this is still fun. And I still Team Martha, even if she is less sympathetic in this than in Love and Ruin. He‘s still a nightmare though, for all that he was a brilliant writer

I got this on sale through Google Play a few weeks back, and so far it hasn‘t disappointed. I enjoy reading about Hemingway‘s life more than I enjoy his books. He was quite a character.

Charming. Who‘s your favourite Hemingway wife? I‘m Team Martha.

KarenUK Definitely Team Martha, though I think Hadley seemed lovely.... 6y
peggyriley I agree. She seemed to be the one most able to move on. 6y

It definitely was for each of Hem‘s wives!
I loved the circular structure of this novel. As we meet Hemingway‘s wives chronologically, each wife starts their own story at the end of their relationship with the great writer/terrible husband(!), and looks back on the marriage.
Ernest had great taste in women; strong-willed, caring, intelligent, and ultimately nurturing of his talent, whether he deserved them or not!

This was recommended by a friend and the next day, when at the library, it was on an end of aisle, calling to me!
An easy and quick read with enjoyable description of the surroundings. I liked the era in which it is set, and the author kept it to needed information.

Gleich nach "The Paris Wife" ein weiteres Hemingway-Buch. Schön. Vor allem die Perspektivenwechsel machen Spass beim Lesen.

Really enjoyed this light novel told from four perspectives (Hemingway's wives). We meet wife one and learn about their lives then see how she deals with his infidelity. Then we skip forward to meet wife two, & through flashbacks see what was really happening during the period covered in the previous section. It's a clever technique but overall it's a bit of a light read - no real insights into the women. It has inspired me to his read biography.
