A mystery that‘s also an adventure in a way as Mary and Sherlock trek their way around Palestine. This takes you back in time and fills in a gap in a previous book in a much more exciting way than you could have imagined the first place. I‘ve seen that some haven‘t enjoyed it, but I really did. A bit strange to be reading it in a week when Jerusalem, its Holy sites and its environs are very much in the news though.

Clearly I cannot get enough of these. A tiny bit less than a year latter I re-read it on audio and it was still lovely.

Mehso-so

So I really, really liked this book. But I can also fully admit it is the weakest in the series thus far, hence the so-so rating. While I ate it up, I could see where others would outright pan it.

Interestingly, this is the 666th book I have logged as read on my Goodreads since I started the account back in March of 2011! You can find me on Goodreads @gnora

Book 95 of the year, finished Nov 13, audio

I listened to the end of this 3 times before I finally gave up. I just couldn't understand what was happening. How did they know that was the bad guy? Where was the chain of logic? Why are the brothers such assholes? Just not a good book. I reccomended you skip this one all together, pretend it doesn't exist and enjoy the rest of the series.

Still struggling through this one. It's really just not holding my interest the way all the other Mary Russell books have and I don't know why. I really want it to be good and it's just not.

At least I've got a fresh baked cookie, a glass of wine, and this furry face to keep me company.

I am struggling with this book. I want to finish it, but for some reason I just can't stay focused on the story the way I could with the other Mary Russell stories. I either doze off or my mind wanders and I have to rewind.

I really hope that the adventure picks up speed soon.

I think this was my favorite so far and I‘m super impatient now to start the next (need to finish the kids car audiobook first). I don‘t know how much is historically accurate, but enjoyed the new setting of early 20th century Palestine. #cottoncandyreads (also, finished all those on the same day!)

This was a break from the normal setting for Russell and Holmes, but a beautiful and engaging one, at that. Plenty of mystery and glib comments, but also some important character development here for Russell especially. And I see that the secondary characters come back in the next book - which is exciting!

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

An adventure with just enough history to be intriguing. Sherlock Holmes. Mary Russell. Reminds me a little bit of the DaVinci code with its history backdrop. I am having a hard time getting my chores done this weekend. The only thing I don‘t like is that I didn‘t realize the publication order does not mean you are reading the tales chronologically.

#SetInTheMiddleEast #MayBookFlowers This book is from the Mary Russel series. It follows Ms. Russel and her mentor Sherlock Holmes as they traverse Palestine just after WWI in search of a spy and saboteur. This book not only is a source for famous locations and persons, but is also a fairly accurate portrayal of Bedouin life for that time period. I would recommend this series to everyone even if you are not a fan of Holmes stories #IamSherlocked
