Wayward volume 1

I was immediately interested when I read the description of this series - it reminded me very much of the supernatural/folklore genre of manga. And I loved it 👍

Half-Irish, half-Japanese teen goes to live with her mum in Tokyo and discovers that she has the ability to see supernatural creatures & events occurring around her. And now she‘s caught up in something much bioger 😆

Need vol 2 now!!

?Remarkably story-rich.
?Fantastic illustrations that utilise both Japanese anime styles with traditional western Superhero style.
?Pretty basic & clichéd superhero origin story, following all the tropes that goes with it.
?Motley cast of characters.
?Authentic to Japan as a setting & doesn't appropriate or fetishise anything.
?Solid first volume.
?4/5

Next comic to knock out! A girl named Rori reunites with her mum in Japan, but ancient creatures are lurking about in Tokyo and they sense something hidden deep within Rori. Getting some series anime vibes!

Part 2 of today's comic haul. Beginnings of a lot of series to see how I like them, plus peek over at that Deep Space Nine comic 👀👀👀👀👀 who knew they made DS9 into a comic?? Holy shit?????

MarriedtoMrT I really liked Velvet. 7y

I'm really on the fence about this one. The first 3/4 of the book is pretty much your standard plot about the MC discovering their magical powers. It's set in Tokyo and it has creatures of ancient Japanese folklore. Sounds awesome right? But it's not. It's actually pretty boring. It only starts to get interesting at the very end. The art is beautiful but I don't know if I'll continue the series.

libraryfangirly Yeah, I stopped collecting them after our three volumes failed to circulate well. It's a shame, because the art really is beautiful. 7y

#seasonsreadings2016 Day 1: Here is my TBR list for December. It's always a busy month, so I'm not sure I'll actually get to all of these, but I'm going to try. I added "If I Was Your Girl" because it's $2.99 on Kindle this month!!

The story has some potential, but I wish it had more background story.

This was pretty good! An interesting look at Japanese mythology. I don't think it'll be the next Saga like the back cover blurb says, but I enjoyed it!

My husband brought this home for me a few weeks ago. He thought I'd like it because it seems to involve cats. 😸😻

This is a hard cover of the first two graphic novels. I am so glad that I picked this up. It was great to read something based on Asian, more specifically Japanese mythology. In this book, there is a section at the end that explains so much that is referred to in the book and Westerners would not know or understand.
