Through the Glass
Through the Glass | Shannon Moroney
9 posts | 1 read | 6 to read
A remarkably compelling and harrowing story of love and betrayal and one womans pursuit of justice, redemption, and healing. One month into our marriage, my husband committed horrific violent crimes. In that instant, the life I knew was destroyed. I vowed that one day I would be whole again. This is my story. An impassioned, harrowing, and ultimately hopeful story of one womans pursuit of justice, forgiveness, and healing. When Shannon Moroney got married in October 2005, she had no idea that her happy life as a newlywed was about to come crashing down around her. One month after her wedding, a police officer arrived at her door to tell her that her husband, Jason, had been arrested and charged in the brutal assault and kidnapping of two women. In the aftermath of these crimes, Shannon dealt with a heavy burden of grief, the stress and publicity of a major criminal investigation, and the painful stigma of guilt by association, all while attempting to understand what had made Jason turn to such violence. In this intimate and gripping journey into prisons, courtrooms, and the human heart, Shannon reveals the far-reaching impact of Jasons crimes and the agonizing choices faced by the loved ones of offenders. In so doing, she addresses the implicit dangers of a correctional system and a society that prioritize punishment over rehabilitation and victimhood over recovery.

When you‘re still in a reading slump four months later, but decide you want to read a little non-fiction, you pull anything off your shelf that looks remotely interesting and read bits of each of them until something catches your interest.

On a more personal note, I‘m officially done work now until October 2025! 😅 Three weeks until the little one is due, so I‘m just trying to keep busy while trying to rest and relax. ❤️

Suet624 October 2025. You must live in a more civilized nation than the US. (edited) 1mo
Cuilin @Suet624 I thought the same thing. 1mo
AmyG Enjoy your last few months. Ha, I couldn‘t read when pregnant. Hope the slump eases. 1mo

Clwojick @Suet624 Lol! Yes, I‘m in Ontario, Canada. My position at the hospital will be held for 18 months. 😊 I went off a little early, but that‘s on a sick leave, so it doesn‘t affect my maternity leave. Definitely grateful! 1mo

It took me a while to finish this one because it weighed heavy on my heart. If you are a closed minded individual, this book is not for you. If you believe in compassion for others and see the good among the bad, then I encourage you to read this memoir. Shannon is an excellent writer, narrating the events that would forever change her life and the lives of all involved. I'm overcome with happiness for her as she finally has "found her voice".

When I think of #asylum I think of "madness". This quote made me think of Shannon Moroney (tagged book) and how her husband created a world of madness in the aftermath of his crimes for everyone involved. Yet, she decides to find and recreate herself. Bravery.

Feeling conflicted while I read about this newlywed wife who just found out her husband assaulted two women, kidnapped them and tied them up in her home while she was away.

She focuses on compassion for others and although I'm not in her shoes I can't help but think at how disgusted and enraged I would be if I had found this out.

Still, she professes her love for him...

I just caught an article by MacLean's on this book and author. Shannon Moroney was only married to her husband for 1 month when he committed an unspeakable act. She knew of his violent past but chose to forgive him claiming that he showed no signs of this behaviour during their relationship.

Her memoir describes the victims and aftermath of his actions...taking place not far from my hometown. Interested in reading but feeling icky about it...
