Posing as one of Robin Hood's thieves to avoid the evil Lord Gisbourne, Scarlet has kept her identity secret from all of Nottinghamshire. Only Big John and Robin Hood know the truth-that the agile thief posing as a whip of a boy is actually a fearless young woman with a secret past. It's getting harder to hide as Gisbourne's camp seeks to find Scarlet and drive Robin Hood out of Nottinghamshire. But Scarlet's instinct for self-preservation is at war with a strong sense of responsibility to the people who took her in when she was on the run, and she finds it's not so easy to turn her back on her band and townspeople. As Gisbourne draws closer to Scarlet and puts innocent lives at risk, she must decide how much the people of Nottinghamshire mean to her, especially John Little, a flirtatious fellow outlaw, and Robin, whose quick smiles and temper have the rare power to unsettle Scarlet. Full of exciting action, secrets, and romance, this imaginative retelling of the classic tale will have readers following every move of Robin Hood and band of thieves.

I really enjoyed this retelling, although to be honest it's the first Robin Hood story I've ever read ? I loved Scarlet as an MC - it really mixed up the usual "Merry Men" aesthetic. I look forward to reading the rest of the series. 4.5 ⭐

I loved this book. It's a Robin hood retelling and the main character, Scarlet was so badass and not your typical heroine. The ending was so good I had to re read it, and the love triangle wasn't even in Scarlets interests until the middle of the book. It's funny and action packed as well as gripping. The story is original yet similar as it's based off of the Robin hood story. I will definitely pick up the second book soon

Some #redreads for #literarylove I have only read one of these so far.

Alwaysbeenaloverofbooks ❤️❤️❤️ 5y
vkois88 Was it The Trespasser? I keep seeing it and it captures my attention, but I'm not sure I want to take the plunge yet 🤔🤔🤔 I have sooooo many books already that still need to be read. And little to no room to store them all 😕 5y
MallenNC @vkois88 No, the only one I've read is Ordinary Thunderstorms. I got it on a trip to the UK and read it on the plane or it would probably still be waiting. I so relate to having more TBR books than room! I moved a few months ago and had to downsize my collection, and I still have so many! 5y

vkois88 Omg I know that feeling! It feels like I'm constantly culling through and yet still bringing more back in 😑😑😑 5y
MallenNC @vkois88 It's a huge problem for me, but tbh, not a problem I'm trying to solve! 5y

This was a reread for me. I first read it about 5 years ago, and remember being completely enraptured by the story. It was a little different this time. Still a fun adventure to read, but this time the love triangle was a little more difficult for me to get behind. Also, just realized upon rereading that there are two more of these! I had no idea this was a trilogy!

Pretty pleased with myself for actually reading all of the books on my TBR for September! And I even have my “Currently Reading” down to a single book- usually it‘s more like 4 or 5
Of course, I left that book at work so I won‘t be finishing it this weekend... might as well jump into my October reading early!

CouronneDhiver Good on ya. I‘m super far behind and definitely not going to make it through my list. Lol 6y

While this is maybe not my favorite Robin Hood ever, I do love the idea of a female Will Scarlet. This was a lot of fun!

MarriedtoMrT The trilogy is really fabulous as a whole. 6y
Johanna414 @MarriedtoMrT I‘ve already started looking for a copy of the next one! My library system doesn‘t have them of course, so I‘m probably going to have to buy them 6y
booksandsympathy My library didn't have them either, last time I checked. I read the book years ago, so would need to re-read it before picking up the next book. 6y

This was definitely a rough start of a book and I found the characters inconsistent and the douche-y things thrown out during fights were...problematic but not analyzed.

Character: You're a whore!...I only called you that to hurt you but hurting you hurts me

Me: ...excuse me? girl, slap him!

Thankfully it did get better towards the end and since I own the sequels...I'll eventually pick them up but I'm in no hurry.

MiyakoBunny 🤣😭🤣😭🤣😭🤣 “Hurting you hurts me” What in the actual F*€K whosoever believes that sh*t after the words “Whore” is a dumb 🤬 🤣🤣🤣🤣 I‘m dying! I think you you should make a Vlog where you reenact this or an animated version...nope puppets do puppets 🤣😭🤣😭🤣😭 6y
SassenachTheBookWizard @MiyakoBunny oh I definitely mention it in my vlog and it's definitely gonna be in my weekly wrap up video lol 6y
MiyakoBunny 🙌🏼That‘s awesome ☺️! A big high five to that character‘s face for sure lol 6y

Robin Hood is #WhattaMan. The Scarlet series is a fabulous and heart-wrenching retelling of Robin Hood. The second book (my favorite of the series) had me bawling like a baby (maybe I should've used it for #tearinupmyheart). A.C. Gaughen pulls in a lot of historical fact (from my layman's perspective) and it was not a pretty or easy time. #90sinJuly

I wasn't a fan of the narration or the love triangle, and then Robin called Scarlet a whore. It never picked up from there for me.

The narrative voice is driving me a bit mad. I feel bad because I have friends that adore this book, but I'm not feeling it...

#sundayfunday If you love Robin Hood or new takes on fairy tales you will love this book! YA retelling of 'Will' Scarlet but not as you know him- now the only female member of Robin Hoods gang 😝😝

LauraBrook I love Robin Hood stuff, thanks for the rec for this one! ❤️ 8y
TheLondonBookworm @LauraBrook No problems! Hood is also quite a good one, a bit different a bit darker 😊 8y
LauraBrook @TheLondonBookworm I really liked Hood and the next in the series. Still have to read Tuck. But I should step up my Robin Hood books game! I know they're out there. I just haven't done a search before! May have to start at Amazon UK. 😉 Thank you for the rec! 8y

When I first read Scarlet, it was meant to be a standalone, so it took me a long time to realize and acquire all three. I loved Scarlet - her fierceness - and Gaughen's abnormal writing style. You can hear Scarlet's voice, even her accent. It's been years, but I still remember the adoration I felt when I turned the last page. Rereading and FINALLY finishing this trilogy.

Strong characters (male or female) are my favorite. They do what needs to be done, and they rarely whine about it. I feel like all three of these have that awesome quality, and I'm feeling like some rereading is in order.

elkeOriginal I enjoyed Scarlet too 👍🏻 8y
