Not Quite What I Was Planning
Not Quite What I Was Planning: Six-Word Memoirs by Writers Famous and Obscure | Larry Smith, Rachel Fershleiser
3 posts | 4 read | 2 to read
Deceptively simple and surprisingly addictive, Not Quite What I Was Planning is a thousand glimpses of humanitysix words at a time. One Life. Six Words. What's Yours? When Hemingway famously wrote, "For Sale: baby shoes, never worn," he proved that an entire story can be told using a half dozen words. When the online storytelling magazine SMITH asked readers to submit six-word memoirs, they proved a whole, real life can be told this way too. The results are fascinating, hilarious, shocking, and moving. From small sagas of bittersweet romance ("Found true love, married someone else") to proud achievements and stinging regrets ("After Harvard, had baby with crackhead"), these terse true tales relate the diversity of human experience in tasty bite-sized pieces. From authors Jonathan Lethem and Richard Ford to comedians Stephen Colbert and Amy Sedaris, to ordinary folks around the world, everyone has a six-word story to tell.

Every month, I will stack up a pile of hopefuls for my monthly TBR, but #areyoukiddingme , girl? It never goes according to plan, even some of the hopefuls were not touched because I get distracted by other books all the time, and I‘m a mood reader. So, for the #firsttime , I won‘t show my #apriltbr , not even the hopefuls. Enjoy the pretty wallpaper. 👆

Tamra It‘s Book ADD. It‘s a real thing. 😉 6y
rockpools That is Very Pretty wallpaper! And I've gone in completely the opposite direction to you this month 🙃 6y
Zelma I wholly support this. (I am a mood reader and never make a TBR for the month, week, anything.) 6y

vkois88 I'm a mood reader too! 6y
megt Right there with you! My moods dictate so much of my reading. There‘s still at least one boom I put on my January TBR that I haven‘t gotten to yet. 🤦‍♀️ 6y
Cinfhen Love the wallpaper ‼️‼️I‘ve stopped planning as well...it‘s so liberating 🧡 6y
Reviewsbylola I like your plan! 6y
Mdargusch Haha! I love this! And I love the wallpaper! 6y
emilyhaldi I‘m with you 💯!!! I‘m always so impressed by people who can plan their whole month ahead. I have planned a lot of April ahead of time with #freakyfriday so I‘m hoping I can stick with it 🤞🏻 6y
needleminding I'm also a mood reader and as much as the planner in me likes monthly tbr stacks, it never works. 6y

For a change I got everything done yesterday (at work anyway). Today I'm feeling not great (headache, cough that won't quit). I predict I get minimal things done today before I give up and go home.

Lynnsoprano Feel better quickly. 7y
Jas16 Hope you feel better soon. 7y
CocoReads Thanks. I'm sure it's nothing a little extra rest and cups of tea won't fix. 7y
Reviewsbylola Feel better! I hope you get to go home soon and relax! 7y
