Oh Evan, I‘m sending you hugs! This is such a wonderful, heartbreaking story, and I get how easily a tragedy 🎭 such as this could go awry with unexpected tangents in a high school setting. I haven‘t seen the musical but listened to the soundtrack (thanks Alexa!) as I neared the end of this book.

Weekend book haul. 😁 Lots of my holds came in at the library at the same time (as they do) and I found a couple of books on my TBR at at used bookstore. And I splurged on a copy of the tagged book since I can‘t get it at the library yet.

vivastory Great haul! The Sarah Waters has been lingering towards the top of my TBR for awhile now & I have been wanting to try Penelope Lively 3w
Ruthiella I loved Fingersmith and Alias Grace. Not read that Lively title, but I loved everything else I‘ve read from her! 3w
Cathythoughts Great ! I loved Fingersmith and Alias Grace too ( especially Fingersmith ) … and I‘m interested to read In Defence of the Act (edited) 3w

batsy Great stack! Really want to read the Olga Ravn and Effie Black ones. Loved both Alias Grace and Fingersmith. 3w
squirrelbrain Great stack! In Defence is likely to be in my top books of the year. I just found Disappearing Earth on Everand, in advance of Bear for #camplitsy24 3w
BarbaraBB Such a great haul! I loved all the ones I read! 3w
sarahbarnes @vivastory same on both fronts! I‘ve read Moon Tiger which was very good. (edited) 3w
sarahbarnes @Ruthiella that‘s great to hear on all fronts! I‘ve only read Moon Tiger and loved it. 3w
sarahbarnes @Cathythoughts I‘ve wanted to read it for awhile and that‘s very good to hear. 3w
sarahbarnes @batsy that is great to hear! They‘ve been on my list for awhile. 3w
sarahbarnes @squirrelbrain that is high praise! I‘m really excited to read it. @BarbaraBB also highly recommended it. 3w
sarahbarnes @BarbaraBB that is great news! I was convinced to get In Defence of the Act from your review! 3w
BarbaraBB That one is so good! But so are Fingersmith and Alias Grace and Disappearing Earth 😀. You‘ll love them and need to read a lot before they are due back 😉 3w
BarbaraBB Oow and What I‘d rather not think about too! 3w
sarahbarnes @BarbaraBB I know - how am I going to read them all before they have to go back?! 3w

Audiobook Fiction: Vanessa, Tony, and Conner have been through unthinkable physical and emotional assaults from stepdads, prison mates, and parents. They meet at a psychiatric hospital for youth who have attempted suicide. Raw and real.

Snow White bag #12 final roof section and the end of this book. I read about this book a few weeks ago as one of the top 5 trending books. I‘m not sure it would‘ve been on my radar otherwise. The author has written a memoir about his brother in law who could do anything ( write, draw, build a house, ski, bike) he put his mind to and had the swagger of a movie star but as the title suggests, he also battled unsurmountable personal demons.

A well very written book. A very difficult subject. I would find this hard to recommend. If suicide has touched your life you probably won‘t want to read. It was hard.

sarahbarnes I ordered a copy of this given a strong recommendation from @BarbaraBB. Glad to see you recommend it as well. 1mo
Cathythoughts I have this stacked. I‘m interested to read it too 👍🏻♥️ 1mo
BarbaraBB Suicide has touched my life and yet I found it somehow comforting 🤷🏻‍♀️🩷 1mo
TrishB @BarbaraBB I think it stirred up to many things. But my own fault- I knew what it was about. 1mo

Ruthiella He‘s such a slime ball! He cares only about leveraging this for money-he doesn‘t care about justice. 1mo
julieclair @5feet.of.fury 💯 1mo
Clare-Dragonfly He certainly doesn‘t seem very believable. I believe him (I bet I know what she wanted to tell him) but he has no proof that Rebecca wrote that note the night she disappeared! 1mo
Clare-Dragonfly @5feet.of.fury Right??!? Hmm… he was sitting with Danny… does she know about the note? 1mo
Aimeesue @mcctrish Hahahaha! He really does! 1mo
Aimeesue Jack is just UGH. Marry your cousin? I‘m still not over the ickiness of that. I mean, I know it was done, but yuck. 1mo
willaful @Aimeesue It was pretty common in England. Fanny marries her cousin in Mansfield Park. (edited) 1mo
mcctrish @Aimeesue maybe it‘s why the English had such horrible teeth 🤣🤣🤣 1mo
Aimeesue @willaful Sure, back on the day, but in the 1930‘s? I don‘t think it was common then. 1mo
Aimeesue @mcctrish Definitely can lead to a lot of health issues! 1mo
willaful @mcctrish There were definitely some serious inbreeding problems in English history! 1mo
ElizaMarie “I'm a bit of a socialist in my way, you know, and I can't think why fellows can't share their women instead of killing them. What difference does it make? You can get your fun just the same. A lovely woman isn't like a motor tyre, she doesn't wear out. The more you use her the better she goes.” 🤢🤢🤢🤢🤢 (edited) 1mo

This is one of those books that you feel you can‘t say you loved, because of the subject matter (suicide). But I did love it.

It‘s very dark but also darkly humorous in places. Looking back on it now I can also see a sense of hope there too.

I can‘t wait to what this author writes next.

slategreyskies There‘s a part of me that wants to read this, but there‘s another part of me that thinks maybe it would hit too close to home and be a dangerous read for me. It does look really good, though. 💕 1mo
squirrelbrain I‘d hate to recommend it @slategreyskies if you think you would find it tough, but it is strangely positive. Check out @leniverse ‘s review today too. 1mo
TrishB I‘ve ordered this one due to everyone‘s reviews 👍🏻 1mo

Surprisingly funny and entertaining for a book that's also pretty sad. Also very life-affirming for a story that deals with suicide, eating disorders, domestic abuse, depression, generational trauma and more in a completely non-moralising way.

BarbaraBB Great review. My favorite from the longlist 1mo
Leniverse @BarbaraBB Not my favourite, but in my personal shortlist I think. Maybe top 3 even. But I also have a couple of books left 😅 1mo
