I've taken to reading ebooks while I ride the stationary bike in the evenings. Started this one tonight. I love the wit in Rucker's writing.

2 editions of the same book? This is what happens when you get manic about research for a new book and order a bunch of stuff in a haze of writerly adrenaline.

Dogearedcopy If you're not returning the extra copy, I'll buy it off of you! I became interested in this when I was doing the research for 'The Years of Rice and Salt' and put it on my Buy list; but for some reason, it got put on the back burner. 7y
rwrkb @Dogearedcopy If you don't mind a *very* used copy I'm happy to just give you the black copy. I bought the second copy because the first came in way worse shape than advertised. They refunded but didn't want it back. (edited) 7y

I'm not much for note-taking or research in general, so this new project has me stretching my comfort zone in that way. Read this in nearly one sitting. Stylistically it was much different than I was expecting but still full of insight and wisdom.

Pickpick

Just finished my first re-read of The Old Man in the Sea for the first time in over a decade. Still fills me with a love for words.

BookishMarginalia I read this in seventh grade and hated it. Haven't reread. Maybe should. 7y
rwrkb That's about the age I first read it and fell in love. I have no interest in fishing but the struggle for a man's relevance touched me, I think and Hemingway's elegant inelegance always gets me. 7y

Another signed book. This one is a special edition hardcover from PS Publishing, which does some amazing stuff. Fun fact about Di Filippo: his brother was my Latin teacher in high school.

RealBooks4ever Is this short stories? I read Neutrino Drag. It was ok. Favorite story was "What's Up Tiger Lilly". ? 7y
rwrkb @RealBooks4ever Yeah, stories. My favorite books of his are Fuzzy Dice and Fractal Paisleys. I've read about 50% of his stuff, but Neutrino Drag is still on one of my TBR shelves. 7y

Another signed book. This one is a very cool bound edition of the first part of Gold's second novel. I also have a loose autograph from when I met Gold but didn't have his first novel, Carter Beats the Devil because my copy at the time had been lost in a move.

RealBooks4ever That reminds me- I've had Carter Beats The Devil on my shelf for years & I still haven't read it. Did you enjoy it? 7y
rwrkb @RealBooks4ever I loved it. Granted I haven't read it since I was 18, but I was definitely enamored with it. Was always bummed the film adaptation fell by the wayside. 7y
