Pickpick

An excellent collection of short stories. I would definitely recommend this, especially if you're a fan of character pieces that reveal less than they imply. There's a lot to be dug through here; it's definitely a book that requires close attention. Personally, I'd really recommend Offertory, although I read this with a group and we all chose different stories that really stuck with us.

Sultzer Regional. It's under some serious construction right now so I got an image from google rather than take a picture myself, but I was there just yesterday picking up Bitch Planet Vol 1. #riotgrams

This #chapbook has a wonderfully short fiction-like structure for those who appreciate plot, while simultaneously making incisive metaphorical moves that only #poetry can successfully make in so short a space. If you're looking for a short read that will keep you coming back time and time again for rereads, pick up this book.

Feb. 4- Favorite Villain
Mrs. Coulter from the His Dark Materials trilogy. This woman is part evil scientist, part femme fatale, and sheer ruthless ambition. While it's impossible to deny her evil, she also cares for her daughter above all else and her deep love makes her a much more interesting villain. #riotgrams

Homegoing: A novel | Yaa Gyasi

Feb. 3- One Word Title
I'm listening to a book with a one word title right now! Homegoing by Yaa Gyasi, a novel which follows the lineages of 2 seperated sisters, one who lives in a castle on the Gold Coast out of which slaves are sold, and one who is enslaved and sold across the Atlantic to the United States. It's a work remarkable for its scope that reminds me of Crossing the River by Caryl Phillips, another great novel. #riotgrams

The Nix | Nathan Hill

Just started reading The Nix. I'm only a chapter in and I already love it. The first chapter makes some spot on hillarious critiques of American politics and media. It's a debut novel by Nathan Hill (which I will definitely be using to my advantage for the @bookriot Read Harder challenge). This book comes highly recommended from local book store The Book Cellar in Chicago, which I in turn highly recommend. #readlocal @rmaclean4
