I read this with my granddaughter, who is in 2nd grade. She and I each had our own copies and would do FaceTime book discussions, which was completely awesome!

Although this big had received so many positive reviews, I went into it , expecting nothing more than a quick, end of summer read. It far exceeded my expectations. The plot sucked me in quickly with great character development, and I easily slipped into the minds of the central 4 characters. Now that my kids have safely survived their upbringing, I can freely admit to enjoying the company of adults at a party, momentarily compromising supervision.

I had read this book years ago, when it was first published. I really didn't know what to make of it, being a departure from what I normally chose. It did stick with me, as an important voice.
Given the present political turmoil that we are in, I figured it would be a good time for a reread .What a prophetic book it turned out to be. My only words to all are...love and empathy. Let us not lose them!

Finally, my first post! I am moving slowly through this book and trying to figure out how to get more reading time in. I am a little over half into it, and finding it to be an engaging , pretty brilliant read. I have lived through the drama of mother-daughter life ,but have had no experience with mother-son complications. The political turmoil is relevant to the 1960s and our present US situation. I was protesting in the '60s, so connect to text.
