oh this book. it's been on my TBR list for awhile, but the day before it won the National Book Award my book club picked it as the December read.
it absolutely broke me. it was honestly so hard to read because every chapter just gutted me. I want to scoop JoJo into a hug that would last his lifetime. it is a necessary book, and a so beautifully written book - but oh my, was it hard for my INFJ heart to take.

E-book It was so heartbreaking, but fantastic 6y
Tav I loved this book, I thought it was beautiful. I loved the little girl so much. 6y
argeorge @E-book yes! exactly how I felt about it. 6y

this book is just so damn pleasant. it has that same whimsy as Mr. Penumbra's and is really just a joy to read. I already bake my own bread, but this book makes me want to take it to a whole new level. thanks for the borrow @elainemckinley 😘 #botm

YOU GUYS. THIS BOOK. I am all about a character study (it could have zero plot, tbh) - but this is a character study with a plot that moves and makes you question what family and motherhood mean, and why we find it where we do. I loved it so, so much. Celeste Ng, you are a genius.

Reviewsbylola I agree, there was so much to think about. 6y

Station Eleven: A novel | Emily St. John Mandel

finished. post-it-noted. and ready for book club moderation 👍🏻

Ashley_Nicoletto Did you like it? Can you say? 7y
mrozzz I also want to know your opinion! 7y
argeorge @Ashley_Nicoletto @mrozzz I love this book SO MUCH. its my second time reading it, this time to moderate for a library book club that meets at a local brewery. it's post-apocalyptic, but less in a YA way, and more focused on emotions, flashbacks & character connections. I would recommend it to anyone. 7y

mrozzz Yay! I read it a few months ago and was floored by how much I liked the post-apocalyptic subject matter but Mandel is a great writer! I really want to read one of her other books. Have you? 7y
argeorge @mrozzz right? it's not usually my bag either, but it felt so real. not exaggerated, just exactly how it could happen ( < and that sentence is horrifying). I haven't, I honestly don't have any excuse as to why. I need to for sure! let me know if you do! I'm starting Little Fires Everywhere today - and I just got Jeffery Eugenides new short story collection! 7y
mrozzz I definitely will!! They're pretty cheap on Amazon so... 😉 Little Fires Everywhere is supposed to be stellar (I gotta get to it) and I've heard mixed reviews on Eugenides which is a shame because I LOVE his novels and now I'm not sure if I want to be disappointed 7y
argeorge @mrozzz nice! I will check those out! and I heard that too 😖 and I'm so in love with his novels, so I'm keeping my fingers crossed! 7y
VinceReads Loved this book. Can't wait for her next one! 7y

why was it so hard this month?! this was my final choice, since I had two free book credits due to some referrals. I'm so excited to read them all. #botm

Reviewsbylola I agree, I was really on the fence about a few of them. I ended up going with three as well. 7y

This collection did a great job of breaking down the ways we can challenge the patriarchy, through the lens of celebrities who are doing exactly that (problematically, sometimes) - Serena Williams, Melissa McCarthy, etc.
It was a great and thought-provoking read for my recent road trip to & from Maine.

Ashley_Nicoletto Loved this one! Definitely thought provoking. Some of the things she points out are things I had judged that exact woman on before without even realizing how wrong I was. I love a book that is eye opening. 7y
argeorge @Ashley_Nicoletto yes! exactly! I loved that about it too. 7y

This book was extremely interesting - Offit has a way of explaining things to the common man without sacrificing facts or necessary technicality. It touches on a lot of topics & scientific mess ups that have invariably impacted all of us in some way. Definitely a good choice if you like non-fiction/relatable science types.
