March #tbr / About halfway done with Goodbye, Vitamin and I am really connecting with the humor so far! Also, I'm so excited to read through the The Women's Prize for Fiction long list that was announced this week. I'm planning on starting with Miss Burma by Charmaine Craig and Home Fire by Kamila Shamsie.

Human Acts | Han Kang

My #readingwomenchallenge pick for a book by a woman in translation + BONUS POINTS because the translator is also a woman / Human Acts is a haunting fictionalization of the 1980 student uprisings in Gwangju, South Korea. The writing is stunning, and the story has left me with so much to think about. It was a 5/5 🌟read for me

Louise Stunning book cover art! 6y

If you read this story out loud, please use the following voices:

ME: as a child, high pitched, forgettable; as a woman, the same.

THE BOY WHO WILL GROW INTO A MAN, AND BE MY SPOUSE: robust with serendipity.

MY FATHER: kind, booming; like your father, or the man you wish was your father.

MY SON: as a small child, gentle sounding with the faintest of lisps; as a man, like my husband.

ALL OTHER WOMEN: interchangeable with my own.

Grise How is the audiobook? Is it read by CMM herself? 6y
Sydne It's not read by Machado. I enjoyed the narrator, but honestly would have preferred print. A few of the stories were hard to follow on audio because they were so bizarre. I had to rewind a lot 😳 @Grise 6y

The Edible Woman | Margaret Atwood
post image

My Margaret Atwood #tbr! I've been reading through her novels for the past couple years. I'm past the halfway point, which makes me kind of happy and kind of sad. I'm thinking about Cat's Eye or The Robber Bride next! Any suggestions?!

readinginthedark I haven‘t read either of them, but a few have recommended Cat‘s Eye to me. (edited) 6y

My #readingwomenchallenge pick for a book where the characters are traveling somewhere / I have been loving this memoir from Katy Tur about her time as a journalist traveling with the Trump campaign. Her writing is so witty, and I love hearing her perspective of what it's like to be a female reporter

"It made me sad when I caught myself pretending that everybody out there in cyberspace cared about what I thought, when really nobody gives a shit. And when I multiplied that feeling by all the millions of people in their lonely little rooms, furiously writing and posting to their lonely little pages that nobody has time to read because they're all so busy writing and posting, it kind of broke my heart."
