As a novel this book is very well written, however, it's marketed as a true story for some reason??? Weird. I figured it out relatively quickly that there was no way this book was 100% accurate. But I enjoyed the story and writing style, if nothing else, the book has emotion.

The Road to Character | David Brooks

This book took me quite a while to finish, some sections I found really good, but others not so much. The author seems to be saying how people all suck now because we don't have morals like people did in the past or something I really don't remember because this book was really boring to me. The section on love was good though.

I had no idea what this guy was talking about for half the time, but the inclusion of the gospel of Thomas at the end was the reason I bought the book in the first place, and that was pretty decent. Some of his commentary is also decent, but some was just bizarre to me.

Breaking free from a religion that simply holds you down. From the outside it seems like an easy thing to do, but if you are raised in a community like this, it can be very difficult to get out. This book I believe captures that struggle well.

I found it to be a very good book, I learned a lot from this book about the Morman church and the history of it. A lot of disturbing things going on in the FLDS, and this book is very good at describing how things got to that point.

Some very good rules that help not only in the political realm, but in life as well. For example, one of the commandments, "always leave your opponent a way face-saving way to retreat" is very helpful. You have truly defeated your enemy when you have made them your friend.

The content and message of the book isn't that bad, however the amount of grammatical errors is huge. The errors are so bad that it is hard to understand what is being said. Very little effort was put into this if you ask me.

Just as good as the first one, although I was disappointed at how little Ron Paul was covered

I really loved the new take on the Bible story that this book presented. A lot of Religious people may not like that.

I really liked it, very graphic and doesn't push the religious part too hard, the resurrection and miraculous events are not covered, but there is a comparison between the death of Jesus and other people that were crucified showing that Jesus is separate from those individuals

Okay so I have gotten 4 of my 6 finals down, and I haven't been able to read much in the past few days :( so ever since I got this app I've just been adding all the books I've already read. I can't wait to be done with this semester 🙌🏼

Lots of big words, which is good because now I can use those big words to sound more photosynthesis.
I really actually did enjoy this book. My favorite rule was always pet a stray cat when you see one because "the world is a sucky horrible place so pet a cat to forget about how much things suck for a second"

Imagine waiting in line at a fancy five star restaurant, you're at the back of the line and by the time you get to the front the restaurant has lost all its stars, oh and it's on fire, because someone set it on fire. Because it sucked. It looked like it might not, but it did. You have been warned.

This book changed my outlook on faith and religion. It's a good one. It really helped me on my own journey as well.

This book really helped me broaden my perspectives, which is an odd saying to me coming from a religiously based book. Normally I find a lot of them to be the same and just generic, but this book was different. Not gonna like I got emotional with the some of the sections. This is not another generic religious book. It really does teach you how to love: Everybody, Always

As a way to "torture" a white prisoner, the Vietnamese made him take care of an injured black man. They ended up becoming bff's and it's a really good story. Proof that at least some people are good right?

I guess I was just really disappointed in the ending, I kept expecting Noah to pull himself together and help the town at the end. I like the story of a man slowly losing his faith, but Noah to me just went from a really likable character to kind of the worst person. It's been about a year since I've read this book so my memory could be off 😅

It's got some high points and low points, I was a bit disappointed that the ending was a cliffhanger, and I feel like reading a whole other book about these characters. But the story is good, I found it hard to follow at some points, some chapters are very well written and others are just not.
