After having accidentally read the 5th book in this series, I went back to the start. It‘s a great MI5, London-based thriller that goes into the politics of the intelligence community, and particularly the agents who have fallen from grace. A very easy and enjoyable read 👍🏻

Loved this book! I‘ve never read anything by Naomi Alderman but picked it up because I‘ve seen trailers for the movie. It was a really interesting look into a Jewish community in Britain, and the relationships of its people. I really like the way Alderman constructed her characters

In light of the #meetoo movement I decided to pull out my battered copy of the First Stone from high school. The book is non-fiction, and involves the author coming to understand a sexual harassment controversy at an Australian college in the 1990s. There is a lot of things Garner says in this book that I disagree with, and the book clearly needs to be read in the context of the 90s, but if you can look past that, Garner‘s writing is brilliant 📖

This was a fantastic book about a large métis family in Canada. I've noticed some reviews saying that it was hard to keep track of all the characters. It is an unconventional story in that it jumps back and forth between different characters and across different times (so probably not the best books to take big breaks in between reading). But the writing is good, and the author such a could story-teller that it works ??❄️

This was an enjoyable read. Interesting mix of courtroom drama and politics, and timely considering #metoo. I thought the portrayal of Kate was a bit overdrawn at the start, but after later chapters it makes a bit more sense. Ending had a bit of a twist to it as well. Overall a good read 👍🏻

(also how great is the hardcover without the dust jacket! 📖)

I just could not get into this book unfortunately :( I'm a big fan of the west wing and I enjoy memoirs so I really thought I'd like it. But this book just seems like it was an opportunity to name drop celebrities he met and to complain about the media.

What an intense book 😳 I loved it, the writing was great and such an engaging, thrilling story of the hunt for the Golden State Killer. I raced through it.

A warning though 🤚🏻 this book can be very difficult to read. It‘s graphic and recounts stories from the perspectives of victims. I couldn‘t read it before I went to bed because I got too freaked out.

So not for everyone, but #truecrime fans will love it

This was a fantastic book!! Didn‘t realise that it was the 6th in a series when I picked it up 😂 but I had heard it was great so dived in anyway.

There were a few things that clearly referred to previous books, but the writing was good, characters interesting and the storyline engaging, so this definitely worked as a stand-alone.

Going back to start the series from the beginning now 👍🏻

This was such a great book!! I saw this described by @Laalaleighh in @Bookworm83 ‘s review as “not a ‘whodunnit‘ but a ‘why did they do it?‘” And that sums this book up completely.

Despite the dramatic start I found that it takes about 50-60 pages to get into. But after that it just keeps getting better and better 👍🏻

This was a difficult book to review!! I wanted to give it a ‘pick‘ for its beautiful writing, interesting characters, and weaving of historical/contemporary events into the story. But at the same time, it was dragged down for me by the weirdness of some of the story lines (severed head 🤔), and how disjointed the plot was for the first 50% of the book. I‘m sure this was intention by Ali Smith, and some people will love it - it just wasn‘t for me

Has anyone read What Belongs to You? I was thinking about ordering it but I‘ve heard it‘s pretty bleak, and I‘m not sure I can take another dark book after #alittlelife 🤔 #litsywelcomewagon

Very excited to read Winter by Ali Smith! I haven‘t read Autumn but I loved How to Be Both and have heard great things about this one

I rated this as a ‘pick‘ because the way the author constructed the characters and their world was so real and engaging that I honestly couldn‘t put it down for 700+ pages (and that‘s a huge measure for a good book for me).

BUT... this book is intense, the author is intentionally trying to push to see how much pain the reader can take and it can be hard to process at times. Big CW for sexual abuse, self-harm and suicide.

Home Fire incredible story about love, religion, politics and the issue of youth radicalisation in Britain. Yet it remained really personal and accessible throughout. It was the kind of book that I was torn between racing through because it was so engaging, and wanting to slow down and savour it.

Hands down one of the best books I've read in a long time. I picked it up with very little information about the subject matter and was blown away by the incredible storyline. Whilst it can get quite philosophical at time, the writing is fantastic and always engaging.

I picked this book up because it had a really interesting premise that seems so relevant right - trying to reconcile your understanding of a loved one with the acts and abuse they are accused.
The plot of the books was quite strong and really drew me in. However I was really disappointed with the ending. It felt very rushed and didn‘t seem to resolve or make any satisfying commentary on the issues the author had initially raised.
