I‘m sad to say I‘m bailing on this one. The premise is interesting but the writing is so amateurish it is difficult to read. I‘m opting for a #Tuvalu tour guide book that has history and culture and I can skim the “how to travel there” parts. I also put a library hold on a book called Pacific by Simon Winchester that comes up in GoodReads when I search for Tuvalu. It looks really good. #readingOceania @Librarybelle @BarbaraBB
I‘ve picked this for my next ebook for #Tuvalu #readingOceania @Librarybelle @BarbaraBB
Anthropologists Anne and Keith Chambers spent several years on Nanumea, an atoll of #Tuvalu, across 3 decades. They discuss the community and culture here. I learned a lot from this book and found it really interesting. It‘s dense in places but not overly academic.

The Gilbert and Ellice Islands were part of the British Empire from 1892 to 1976. The Gilberts include #kiribati and the Ellice Islands became #tuvalu, so I‘m using this book for both prompts for #readingoceania24.
Arthur Grimble was sent to the islands in 1914 as a colonial administrator and I was worried that the book would be very ‘colonial‘ but, although there were a few concerning tales, it seems as though he became very respected ⬇️
For those doing the #readingOceania2024 challenge, I've just added this book to the Litsy database. It's the only book I could find for #Tuvalu, and it's free with Kindle Unlimited, and pretty cheap as an ebook otherwise.
