This one didn‘t capture my attention immediately but came together so well by the end. Not a tearjerker, thankfully, but still a poignant Christmas story. Characters from the first installment are still showing up, and I love it. This author does a great job of creating meaningful stories full of grace and love. The author also reads this audiobook and you can tell she loves these characters so much just by the way she reads them.

#SeriesLove2023 @TheSpineView @Andrew65

I started this author‘s series in December‘22 with Christmas Shoes and Christmas Blessing. There are many more beyond what my library has…I‘ve enjoyed every one so far ❤️

I wasn‘t too sure about this one because for a short little book a pile of characters with their own stories were introduced. But all those stories came together in the sweetest HEA way, and it turned out to be a great holiday read.

Such a gentle breeze, wind chimes-all is quiet after our traditional Village Memorial Day parade, that goes right by my front yard. We join in the end of the parade & go to the cemetery for speeches, a fly over,& a 4-gun salute. Then a short walk away at the fire house, there is coffee, ice cream, hot dogs. Wonderful community event.#MemorialDay #remembrance #porchlife

Beautifully illustrated and well researched historic fiction #picturebook retelling the events of 1 of the 1st memorial day celebrations in the U.S. after the Civil War. Includes background. information that guided the research, a bibliography, web links and a timeline. Great for leading up to the holiday weekend or as an example of how children can volunteer in service to their community. #everybodybook #weneeddiversebooks

Forgot to do a #bookmail post this last Monday. Refreshing the readings for my History, Memory, Commemoration grad seminar.

BookishMarginalia These look interesting! 3y
tournevis @BookishMarginalia Tagged and Memory (Tortell, Turin, Young) especially so. Not without problems and should be used as a start to broader reflection, but very thought-provoking (edited) 3y
tournevis @BookishMarginalia I added Memory, tagged as a whole to the readings, plus chapters from all the others, except On the Art of Being Canadian, that would have been too difficult to contextualize in a history seminar (I really like it though). 3y

Gorgeous poetry, but I don't know how much kids will understand it. As a lyrical way for adults to process the horrors of Sandy Hook, which are still traumatic almost seven years later, this is beautiful, though. I'm not usually a fan of Kellogg's illustrations, and that is pretty much the case here, too, but that last page - he nails it. The text and picture are perfection.
