Journey's End | Robert Cedric Sherriff

Pickpick

This is beautiful and heartbreaking. A quick snapshot at the lives of officers on the front lines during WWI, which is not something usually portrayed in this type of literature. Most of the time the story will focus on a soldier's life, but this play shows that being a commanding officer can be just as hard, and filled with just as much death and sadness. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️#readharderchallenge #publishedbetween1900and1950 @bookriot

Normally, this type of story wouldn't hold my interest for long. It's just so far removed from anything I usually read. But Steinbeck wrote it in such a beautiful, compelling way. He is one of those authors who can create vivid imagery in my mind. Many moments I could practically hear the scene unfold. I could feel it, smell it. His writing is incredibly powerful.

The first book of my #24in48 readathon. It was okay, but I wasn't blown away by it. I liked how Steinbeck used music to describe the characters feelings and how much he managed to tell in just 90 pages. A good, quick read. 👍
