I surprised myself by getting into this story far more than I expected, and should have read this long ago! Twins Sam and Wyatt are left on earth with other kids, elderly, and disabled people following the alien invasion. They work together to try and find their parents, relying and their own strengths and if the other “rejects”. Appreciate the compassion with Wyatt‘s autism. #doublespin #bbrc #teenangst #physicalmentalemotionaldiversity ⬇️

Just to be clear, I absolutely did not sob my way through a YA queer romance novel with superheroes. Not even a little bit.

Nick Bell is starting the new school year trying to be better. He‘s taking his tablets for ADHD & staying out of trouble, as agreed with his dad. But he is writing fanfic about the superheroes active around the city. Particularly ShadowStar. Also his best friend Seth has been MIA all summer- does he have a secret boyfriend?

rockpools I‘d been wanting to read TJ Klune for ages, but hadn‘t realised this was his first YA novel. I was very unsure to begin with - it‘s cute and funny and painfully awkward, and his Nick‘s friendship group is adorable, as is his relationship with his dad (don‘t tell any of them). But it did read as very young YA, and romance and superheroes really aren‘t my thing. By a third of the way through, I was absolutely can‘t-put-it-down, gripped. 4y
rockpools The story was fun, funny and sweet, but above all, I fell for the characters and just how much they cared.

Thanks to #NetGalley and #Hodder&Stoughton for finally getting me to read TJ Klune with a free ARC. This is published tomorrow 14th July.

Soubhiville I hadn‘t heard of him until The House in the Cerulean Sea, which I loved. I‘ll be looking into his other books! 4y
Sarahreadstoomuch @Soubhiville @RachelO I second the house in the cerulean sea. One of my favorite reads this year!! 4y
rockpools @Soubhiville I‘d seen so many great reviews of Cerulean Sea, I had to snaffle this one when it appeared on NetGalley. I suspect ‘cerulean‘ may be one of his favourite words!! 4y
rockpools @Sarahreadstoomuch 👍🏻 I‘ll find a copy. Thanks! 4y
