Thanks for the recommendation #OverBookedClub. I enjoyed this, but it was a slow burn and therefore not everyone‘s cup of tea.

🎶🎵On the second day of ##12BooksOf2022 my book log gave to me… my favorite book of February 2022!

One of several great reads I discovered this year thanks to #OverBookedClub! I recommended it to my IRL book club, so I‘m looking forward to re-reading it in a couple of months. 😀

Andrew65 I‘ve got this on my TBR and need to get to it. 1y

I posted 4 spoiler questions for November‘s #OverBookedClub read. You can find them in the book‘s page, my page, or the club tag. I‘ve only seen 1 review so im not sure if others have t had a chance to finish. This book seems right up my alley and I want to love it but I was getting bogged down in some of the battles. I‘m about 50% through and hope to finish.

TheBookHippie I‘m almost done!!! Terrible at posting 😅🤦🏻‍♀️ 1y
Chrissyreadit I did not read it even though it seems like a book I would enjoy 1y
julieclair I am loving this book so far! I'm only about half way done. November was the worst reading month I've had all year... so little time for reading... I'm behind in all my buddy reads. 😕 1y

mrp27 I still want to read this one but November was so busy I couldn‘t squeeze it in. 1y
sblbooks Thanks! I really enjoyed this one. I understand why it's hard to read though, there are parts that are so brutal. I hope you guys will finish up, or read it someday. It's definitely an interesting topic that I would like to read more about. @TheBookHippie @Chrissyreadit @julieclair @mrp27 @megnews 1y

sblbooks I think life and Ireland will be hard for them. If I remember correctly the famine was still going on for some time after this. 1y

sblbooks There are so many losses in this novel. 😞 Their spouses, and all the men of Saint Patrick's battalion had the biggest impact on the story. 1y

sblbooks As I mentioned in the previous question, I believe the reason the Irish felt a kinship to the Mexican people was because they shared the same religious beliefs. 1y
megnews @sblbooks I agree with that. Could it also be because both groups were looked down on, oppressed, or fighting a greater power to hold on to their land? 1y
sblbooks @megnews for sure. 1y

sblbooks The Irish and the Mexicans were both Catholic nations. At the time Ireland wanted their freedom from England. While Mexico was trying to fight for the land they possessed and keep the US from annexing anymore of their Homeland. 1y

Pickpick

This month's #OverbookedClub pick is excellent. I will now be doing a deep dive on the Mexican-American War. I don't think I've read any other novels set during this time. Thanks for choosing this one @megnews When is the discussion?

megnews I am struggling with this one. I enjoy parts but get bogged down in the description of battles. I tried on audio and still the same. I hope to finish but at this point it‘s the first time I haven‘t finished an #overbookedclub book on time. I‘ll post questions tomorrow. 1y
megnews I‘m really glad you enjoyed it. I love when a book takes me down a research and reading rabbit hole. I thought that would be the case here for@me as I know nothing about this war. 1y
sblbooks @megnews there's no rush. There are parts that were extremely difficult to read. I remember we studied Manifest Destiny in school. I also remember watching North and South and the Mexican-American War was in that miniseries as well. Even so, I didn't know many details. 1y
