I admit that I confused this family with the Borgia family. They were very similar, in fact, so I don't feel too foolish. They started as bankers in Florence. It seemed to me that every other generation was patrons to the arts, while the other generations were lazy and/or violent. The family was often fighting the papacy except when they had a son or nephew as a pope. I'm glad I read it. I learned more about Italy's history before unification.

Crazeedi Would you definitely recommend? I need a good book to immerse myself and I love reading about this period 4d
Butterfinger @crazeedi I can't honestly recommend it unless you want to take notes. All the names that the family was fighting ran over each other, and I would forget why they're fighting. It was interesting to learn the different personalities and how each one added to art and architecture. 4d

The Serpent Queen series. Minnie Driver played Elizabeth 1. She did an excellent job. She was the best character.

Serendipity lead me to this novel at the Library, it‘s been around for a while. I do enjoy a good historical mystery, and this generally fits the bill, although the historical premise is a bit shaky. Wilson posits a fictional reason for the disappearance of Hans Holbein in 1543 that involves the (factual) Prebendaries Plot to bring down Thomas Cranmer and restore Catholic rule. I enjoyed “meeting” his protagonist, London goldsmith Thomas Treviot.

Fiction book for September #readingbracket2023 @chasjjlee

Magpiegem I wasn‘t a huge fan of this one, I felt very underwhelmed at the end despite my high hopes! 2y
jenniferw88 @Magpiegem I did the audio, which definitely helped - I agree, I think I'd have been underwhelmed if I read it in print. It was narrated by Richard Armitage! 2y
