The King Who Rained | Fred Gwynne

To be honest, I love this whole series. I love the adorable artwork. And how it introduces homophones. They‘re all so clever, and I love sharing them with my nibling.

#SundayFunday Have a wonderful Sunday, and don‘t forget to tag me on your posts!

MissyD I used this book when I taught homophones for years. 9mo
AlaMich Is that the same Fred Gwynne who played Herman Munster? You may not know the answer to this if you are under 40. 👵🏻😂 (edited) 9mo
MissyD @AlaMich why yes it is the same person who played Herman. (Which oddly enough my husband is watching that show now. 🤣) 9mo

4 ⭐Step into reading preschool and kindergarten 1999.
It is an older volume but it‘s all about how the same word can have two different meanings. All the pages are similar to “the yak yakking” meaning the animal talking. “The bear bearing” meaning the bear with no clothes. While some kids may not initially get it without a dictionary, it is a great way of showing how multiple words can mean multiple things.

#temptingtitles #withapun. Not sure if this counts as a pun, but definitely has word play. MC has Asperger‘s and is obsessed with anagrams. A very emotional MG read 💙

Rose is obsessed with homonyms - they calm her. Not everyone understands her obsessions, special rules and how she‘s different from others.

Who would have thought that our beloved Herman Munster aka vintage actor extraordinaire Fred Gwynne wrote and illustrated 9 children‘s books! Fred depicts how children misinterpret everyday phrases with his ingenious play on words and literal meanings. What a hoot! Loved Fred‘s memorable characters and so happy to discover that he was a creative author as well.

PurpleyPumpkin The hidden talents people have are amazing! Doing well over here with the weather warming up. We‘re still in lockdown until early June. But I‘m hopeful now that the vaccines are finally rolling out in force. Hope you‘re doing well also!💜 3y
UwannaPublishme @PurpleyPumpkin Yay! Glad you‘re doing well! Things are getting much better here too. Our whole family is now vaccinated! 🙌🏻 But we‘re still staying cautious and indoors for now. The future is certainly and finally looking better! Take good care, my friend! ❤️ 3y
Pageturner1 just seen this! who would of thought he wrote books? i am going to have to look into them. 3y
UwannaPublishme @Pageturner1 It was news to me too. From this book, you can tell he had quite a sense of humor. 😊 3y

The #ssrf South Sound Reading Foundation just donated 400 books to the PTA at my school. The boxes were brought to my library and I had to open them all and look through before I went home for spring break. If you don't already know who penned this gem, Google his name.

BlueMoonJ This was one of my all time favorite books as a child. Loved that I know the secret identity! 😉 3y
mandarchy @BlueMoonJ That's so cool! I didn't learn about it until I was an adult. At least that's my memory. 3y

Rose Howard is obsessed with homonyms. She's thrilled that her own name is a homonym, and she purposely gave her dog Rain a name with two homonyms (Reign, Rein), which, according to Rose's rules of homonyms, is very special. Not everyone understands Rose's obsessions, her rules, and the other things that make her different...
