I have to say I don't usually love stories that take on social issues so directly, but this one was enjoyable! The main character is so likable and the cooking competition reality show was a lot of fun. And such good food descriptions! A thoughtful look at a difficult subject. The protagonist learns leaning on her friends does not make her less strong or smart. TW: addiction and drug use.

I enjoyed reading this book because it is important for children to know however their family looks that is perfectly okay. I also like the style of the illustrations, the illustrator uses texture to convey the events of the story.

This book is about how families can look different and that is okay. The illustrations in the book use value to represent how all families can be light and dark. The illustrator also uses space to show small or large families are.

This has been patiently waiting on my shelf since January when I bought it for #auldlangspine …
I picked it up this morning and have spent the entire day reading, swept up in Sarah‘s (pronounced SAH-reh) story of food, family and finding her cultural identity. I‘ve stumbled across a few books recently that dealt with themes of family and food, how love is expressed through food and also culture. This was the perfect fit to continue those themes.⬇️
