I have to say I don't usually love stories that take on social issues so directly, but this one was enjoyable! The main character is so likable and the cooking competition reality show was a lot of fun. And such good food descriptions! Thanks to @MeganAnn and her #AuldLangSpine list for bringing it to my attention! Also thanks to @monalyisha !

This has been patiently waiting on my shelf since January when I bought it for #auldlangspine …
I picked it up this morning and have spent the entire day reading, swept up in Sarah‘s (pronounced SAH-reh) story of food, family and finding her cultural identity. I‘ve stumbled across a few books recently that dealt with themes of family and food, how love is expressed through food and also culture. This was the perfect fit to continue those themes.⬇️

I haven‘t read a single book off this list yet, but several are on my TBR. There‘s also several new to me titles that look fascinating including the tagged book.

The tagged + The Archive of Alternate Endings are the two new titles I‘m most excited about. Hoping for some Xmas book money to order them. Everything else pictured my library has. The rest on the list aren‘t available to me now. ⬇️

I hadn‘t heard of LESSONS IN FUSION before it caught my eye on the shelf, but it sucked me straight in. There‘s so much here: delicious food, strong families with rough patches, cool friendships, Judaism, intense Winnipegness, pandemic realities, and a lot about tokenism in media. Primrose Madayag Knazan‘s characters make the best choices they know how to make—and when they mess up, they learn to do better. 4.5 stars.

I‘m hoping to sink into this Jewish Filipinx-Canadian reality cooking show novel tonight! Casey agrees it‘s off to a promising start. He‘s promised not to lick it while I read, even though it‘s a big ask. Something on the spine calls to him.
