As a pretty avid nonfiction reader, and politically opinionated American, it‘s my personal duty to read such examinations. Although the writing is mediocre and repetitive, it‘s a decent companion to the Walter Isaacson biography, if you‘re willing to dive fully in. Erratic, chaotic, narcissistic, and dangerously influential. I‘m obvs no Musk fan.

Amiable I have the Isaacson bio but haven‘t been able to muster the enthusiasm to read it yet. I detest Musk. 5mo

britt_brooke @Amiable He‘s truly awful. The Isaacson biography is worth a read if/when you feel up to you. I read it when it came out, before all the recent shit. But mostly I picked it up because of Isaacson. 5mo

Amiable @britt_brooke Isaacson is why I also picked it up —before the 2024 election and the DOGE bullshit. I was feeling like, welp, I‘ll never read it now. 😖 But I‘m hanging onto it—maybe with time I‘ll be able to stomach it . 5mo

Walter Isaacson is a fantastic writer. He can make reading about an unlikable human an easy, smooth, and informative experience. He can‘t make me like the dude though.

Seabreeze_Reader @Bookwomble I basically did the same for my Fbook account about 6 years ago. I stopped using it (for the obvious reasons) then completely nixed my account. Even after all these years, I don't miss it one bit. 13mo

Bookwomble @Seabreeze_Reader I still have my FB account due to the photos I have on there, and (theoretically) to view the pages created by deceased family members, but actually I haven't been on for about four years, and only went on there 2½ years ago because my uncle wanted me to post about my dad's passing. Otherwise, my mental and emotional health is better for not engaging, although it does mean that y'all Littens have to suffer me instead 😆 13mo

I don‘t like Musk, but I‘m in awe of Walter Isaacson, his biographer, after having read another of his books, “Steve Jobs”, a few years ago. This book is indeed very interesting.

While Elon Musk is a figure that many have strong opinions about, myself included, you cannot discount his incredible success. His determination and dedication to hitting his goals are unlike anyone I have ever read about. While I do not agree with all his methods or his personal touch, there were many things I could take from him for my career. Love or hate him, Musk dares to see how risk can lead to great reward.

This biography was a page turner--no matter what you think of Elon Musk, his life has certainly been eventful, and Walter Isaacson does a masterful job of portraying his complex world of business ventures and relationships. The portrait that emerges depicts a brilliant, visionary, obsessive, erratic, relentless, arrogant, unstable man. His accomplishments are extraordinary; his empathy for individual humans (as opposed to Humanity) is minimal.
