There's nothing wrong with this, per se, but it is not grabbing me. Too bad, as the story of 4 out of 5 of the author's family coming out as queer or trans later in life sounded so interesting!

Small Town Pride | Phil Stamper

This was such a nice book to read!!! I LOVE seeing the familial support, jealous! 😭😭 💕 I feel like that's not something I often stumble upon. But it wasn't just nice vibes because we're talking about a *small* town but with so much support after his father puts up a giant pride flag on their front lawn, Jake decides to go even further. He wants to hold his town's first pride parade! And oh boy is it a struggle. 5 ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐!! #netgalleybacklog

New Reads November is BACK on my book podcast! YA author Eliot Schrefer joins me to kick off the sixth (!!!!) year of this beloved annual series and to talk about FRIDAY I‘M IN LOVE by Camryn Garrett. We discuss coming out narratives, casual racism, self-aware narrators, the subversion of tropes about sweet sixteens, and how to write for a teen audience. 🎉🏳️‍🌈 Listen at the link in my bio!

I wanted to read this especially because it is so highly banned. It is a great resource for teens & others who have questions about their identity or sexuality but also a tool for parents & others who want to better understand their loved ones. I found the humor to be a bit jarring at times but overall Dawson does a good job explaining the basics of living a queer life - the good & bad

A group of memoir essays from a young person (prob around my age- and I just point it out bc memoirs have a very dif feel when written by someone u der like 30…not bad at all, just dif) who came out later in life. It‘s sweet and hesitant and rly positive overall. I hope Katie Heany is very happy :))

This book is fabulous! It‘s blunt, yes, but I think that‘s a very good thing. It‘s also funny and witty. I‘m so glad that there are books like this for young people to read!

Burnout is real, y'all. Not sure how to combat it aside from making the most of every rare day off. Today it means pj's all day and a new YA read, and it feels like bliss. #CurrentlyReading

This is an excellent book. It's aimed at young people, and as such the writing style made me feel like a grumpy old woman ("why is this in capitals? Why are you shouting? What does this slang even mean?"), which probably means it's doing its job. It's refreshingly honest and plain speaking, and there's a very good chapter aimed at parents/carers and links to helpful websites at the back.
