This book is the beginning of a feel good series. Lovely stories about our relationships with all the other creatures - 2 and 4 legged - in our lives. #augustbookchallenge

My underrated/under appreciated pick for the #AugustBookChallenge is this YA novel. It's a tough read, and I don't know if it's a great book, but it's an excellent, powerful look at the white nationalist movement and how they prey on poor white kids who feel they have no other options. It's sadly still relevant - and good reading for today's current climate. Stick with it - it's flawed but important. (I promise to post some lighter books soon! 😂)

Pickpick

#augustbookchallenge #booksandstationary At Christmas, a coworker sent each of us a lovely note using these notecards. When I saw them, I felt I needed some too, a cool throwback to the card catalogs I grew up with. 😋. P.S. I have to say it is getting hysterical around our house with me picking up 📚 or what have you, then stalking a cat (Jack this time) to find out who is sleeping and then trying to prop the things around them. 😂😂😂😸

rubyslippersreads I do the same thing with my cats. They just don't want to be supermodels. 😸 8y
Bette @rubyslippersreads 😸😋 I'm just surprised I don't see the back of them as they stalk away...mostly they've been (yawn) ok. 8y

CyranoseDeBergerac You mean your cats aren't willing subjects? 😸 Maybe I should try that with my cats. Libby would probably just want to kiss me though. And Sophie would be all Troll Face and flick her tail and then leave. Cool notecards, by the way. 😉 8y
Bette Thanks @cyranosedebergerac! Keep chasing them. 😽😉 yeah, I love the notecards, the young woman from work has this unique, individual taste we all get a kick out of. 👒👠👓😀👍 8y

I love this Jane Austen writing paper but the dip pen? It is one of those things that is definitely more charming in theory (I tried). #augustofpages #booksandstationery #augustbookchallenge #FolioSociety

"Give me a girl at an impressionable age and she is mine for life."

I immediately thought of this book when asked to select one representing #innocence for the #augustbookchallenge. Jean Brodie mentors a select set of six girls from pre-adolescence through their teenage years. Over the years, their once emphatic dedication to Jean Brodie shifts and they start developing their own thoughts.

I love this book! Sparks is such an amazing writer.

LeahBergen That cover! 😍 8y
rubyslippersreads ❤️💕❤️ the cover! 8y
BekahB @LeahBergen and @rubyslippersreads I saw this cover and HAD to have this version of the book. Sometimes I will hold out on buying a book until I can get the cover I want. 😄 8y

#Day22 #AugustBookChallenge #innocence The All-of-a-Kind Family books are the epitome of innocence. I adored these books as a child & carted them home often from the library. I shared a love of books & libraries w/ Ella, Henny, Sarah, Charlotte & Gertie but little else as they were from the early 1900s, Jewish & from the Lower East Side of Manhattan & I found them fascinating. Reading them now, I'm transported back to my childhood library days❤️📚

julieloverofbooks Some of my all time faves! I reread them often! 8y
Imagineannie I loved them! I pretended I was Sarah, and wanted the kinds of candy they bought with their housecleaning pennies. 8y
BethFishReads I LOVED these books!!!! 8y

When I think of #innocence, it's hard not to flash to #bookishbirthday Ray Bradbury, whose work is infused with an American optimism and innocence (in both children and adults) that flourished in the post-war era: a belief that anything was possible. And Something Wicked is that balance between innocence and darkness, and the time when that all shifts under your feet. These are some of the finest stories of the 20th century. #AugustBookChallenge

rachelm Bradbury for the win? 8y
rachelm And that was supposed to be an exclamation mark. But I guess in true SciFi fashion there should be a lingering question... 8y
UwannaPublishme Bradbury is the best! 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻 8y

I think I need more of a musical background to really get this book. I tried, though! Photo is of my husband's Grandpa, musician. #augustphotochallenge #augustbookchallenge #bookplusmusic #augustofpages #booksandmusic
