Here‘s my garden gnome who keeps this little container garden on our back deck in order. He‘s my “gnome-land” opposite of my newest audiobook, Nomadland. Bad pun ... 😝

p.s. then I saw that @Cinfhen just read this for the same prompt ... 🤣😍

Texreader 🤣🤣🤣 4y
Smarkies Noting this down for that prompt as I don't have anything for that now. 4y

Current #Audiobook 🎧 Really interesting... a look at camper workers / people who have given up owning/living in a house & instead invest in “wheel”-estate...living full time in RVs. I‘m enjoying @Riveted_Reader_Melissa thanks for the suggestion ♥️🚍#NonfictionChallenge2020 #AboutSocialSecurity

marleed Sounds fascinating. I could not do this because I couldn‘t be trusted in the driver‘s seat. 4y
BarbaraBB Definitely intriguing. I can see the charm of living that way forever and travel the world but in reality it would probably drive me nuts 😀😘 4y
Cinfhen It‘s not as “glamorous” as it sounds @marleed @BarbaraBB for most of these people they are no longer able to afford housing and because of their age ( most are over 65) they can‘t find good steady employment so they travel around the US looking for seasonal jobs. It‘s really fascinating but pretty sad/depressing 😞 It‘s very informative 4y

BarbaraBB Oh that is really sad indeed. Like the Grapes of Wrath... (edited) 4y
Megabooks I tried to listen to this but I was in a bad headspace and ended up crying a lot. Maybe someday. 4y
Cinfhen I definitely think this is in your wheelhouse @Megabooks my only complaint... it contains too much page filler😬otherwise it‘s really interesting #Hoopla 4y
Hooked_on_books I ran into a couple of folks with this lifestyle when I lived in Oregon. The ones I met had a pretty set pattern of where they would go at various times of year. It was interesting chatting with them but made it rather challenging to plan surgery. 4y
Cinfhen Yes @Hooked_on_books different industries hire seasonal workers throughout the year so these camper force workers do have an idea of where to dwell....as for surgery most don‘t have medical insurance so they cross into Mexico for all medical/dental needs. 4y
Hooked_on_books If I remember right, the people I saw were Medicare, so at least they had insurance. It‘s definitely a hidden population. That‘s the thing about medicine—you really see a cross-section of society. It‘s eye-opening. 4y
Cinfhen Interesting about Medicare / a few narratives do follow the over 70 @Hooked_on_books surprisingly there is lots of hopefulness as well (edited) 4y
TheAromaofBooks There are a lot of YouTube videos about this population as well, as well as younger folks doing the same thing in an attempt to save money and “live small“ - love seeing school bus conversions especially. I don't think it's for me (could I possibly fit all my books in a motorhome?!) but it does have its attractions. 4y
Cinfhen I‘ll have to check out YouTube / thanks @TheAromaofBooks ♥️ 4y
Riveted_Reader_Melissa You are welcome, glad you are finding it interesting. 4y
Suet624 @Hooked_on_books the thing about Medicare is that it costs $$$. Some people can‘t afford it. 4y
Hooked_on_books @Suet624 Medicare is essentially given to everyone over 65 and to those with certain health issues. Premiums are based on income or paid by Medicaid, if the person qualifies. It typically covers 80% of the cost and if people don‘t have a supplemental insurance then yes, there are people who can‘t cover that 20%. I was in health care for almost 20 years and learned far more about insurance than I ever expected to know, though it‘s useful. (edited) 4y
Suet624 @Hooked_on_books I‘m about to sign up for Medicare. Only the hospital portion is free. Part B which covers the doctor‘s visits costs $144 a month. Prescriptions and any supplemental coverage is an additional cost.I‘m currently on Medicaid and pay nothing. So in my case Medicare is a new cost that strains my very small budget. 4y
Hooked_on_books @Suet624 I of course can only speak to what I saw as a surgeon. Many of my patients had both Medicare and Medicaid, so they had no out of pocket costs. BUT if you tried to authorize a procedure Medicare approves and Medicaid doesn‘t, it‘s a challenge, because you aren‘t allowed to bill Medicaid patients (not in Oregon anyway). So the hospital typically lets it go forward and just eats the 20% cost. 4y
Hooked_on_books @Suet624 We were writing at the same time. I can only speak to Oregon, where you would not be kicked off Medicaid when you went on Medicare. You‘d have both and therefore no costs. But every state has different rules. Be sure you know your states rules, since you definitely want the double coverage if you qualify. 4y
Suet624 @Hooked_on_books Yes. Thanks. I‘m already working on that. 😊 Just a reminder though that saying Medicare is free would be inaccurate and might confuse future recipients. I had no idea until I started to enroll. 4y
Crazeedi @Suet624 yep the part B premium is a stress on a limited income for hubby and i 4y
Suet624 @Crazeedi Diane, are you paying for part d too? I‘m trying to decide on that. 4y
