#UCFLAE3414F19
Burger Boy by Alan Durant and illustrated by Mei Matsuoka, is a cute story about a boy who refuses to eat anything but burgers and his mom warns soon he will turn into one, and to his surprise he does! post image

#UCFLAE3414F19
Thank You, Omu! by Oge Mora is a Ezra Jack Keats, Caledecott and Coretta Scott King book award winner. This RF picture book is an amazing story about a Omu and her bowl of stew. This book has an amazing message about sharing that I think would be wonderful for a RA! Discussion questions for this book can be found here: https://thestorybooklady.com/thank-you-omu/

GroeningsC UDL: 7.2, by asking questions that connect the book to the students lives.
ESOL: 22, when asking discussion questions be sure to allow enough wait time for English learners.
5y

I Won't Eat That | Christopher Silas Neal
post image

#UCFLAE3414F19
I Wont Eat That by Christopher Silas Neal, is a MF PB about a cat who refuses to eat cat food and goes on a journey asking any animals he can find, what they eat. I would use this book as a RA. GroeningsC UDL: 7.2, relate the cat being a picky eater to the students life, asking what they like and dislike!
ESOL: 4, before reading this book activate students background knowledge on what different animals eat.

The Giver | Lois Lowry
post image
Pickpick

This SF 1994 Newbery Medal winner novel by Lois Lowry tells about a 12-year-old boy named Jonas who lives in a dystopian society that is colorless, ideal, free of crime and sadness. At that age, children are assigned jobs/roles, which they will train and do for the rest of their lives limiting the choice of an individual. The society is controlled by rules and tradition of the Elders.

sbombasi Jonas wanted change and made a sacrificial choice for the good of the community. This would be good IR/LC read.

This lesson plan allows students to think deeper about philosophical issues like the book, students would share their own experiences of distinctive memories growing up, have discussions about them and reflect on self-assessment.

5y
sbombasi The UDL principle 9.3 develop self-assessment and reflection along with EL #4 link lesson topic to students‘ prior knowledge align well with this. #ucflae3414f19 5y

#UCFLAE3414F19

JennaMichelleCohn I‘m interested in if this story deals with the topic of death at all? I haven‘t read it but I think it‘s important to touch on this with students and teach them coping skills. 5y
kradebaugh This is such a great book. I bought this book for my own kids and its one they love to have my dad read. 5y

The Pigeon HAS to go to School (F) by Mo Willems is about a Pigeon who really doesn‘t want to go to school. I think children will relate to this book and find it enjoyable to read. I would have a child who likes to present give a DR to the class. The UDL guideline I would use is 2.4 (have it printed in other languages that were used in my classroom) and the ESOL strategy I would use is number 20.

Jewelwinkler To see Mo Willems read this book click here https://youtu.be/YiHqMITqyOA 5y
maciforster I love the read aloud of the author reading the book! The topic also seems like something the students would love. 5y
DrSpalding How fun to do a dramatic reenactment! Super resource showing the author reading the book. This could be a literacy station in your class! 5y
