Lindy @Leftcoastzen Shortly after this photo was taken, she batted my tripod and I had to cut out a bouncy segment when I was editing my video. 😅 6d

At first glance, these stats look like I was going a bit overboard on reading in April, but 14 out of the 51 books were picture books—there was a readathon on booktube encouraging adults to read picture books. I also participated in #TransGirlApril —and read 13 books by trans or nonbinary authors. 10 memoirs or biographies were for #PeopleApril. #readingstats (for bookish nerds)

Pickpick

Teen years are often hellish. Lewis Hancox puts a funny spin on his own experience in hell (actually St Helen‘s, northern England), in his graphic memoir about being trans. I appreciate how compassionate he is towards his younger self, and I was surprised at how much I could relate to his awkward misadventures, not being trans myself. #LGBTQ #TransGirlApril

The Third Person | Emma Grove
post image
Pickpick

In her graphic memoir, Emma Grove documents six months spent seeing Toby, one of the worst therapists possible. She needed a referral from Toby (who happens to be a transman) in order to proceed with her gender transition. The catch? She has Dissociative Identity Disorder. And Toby was not equipped to deal with her challenges. This book is over 900 pages and I read it in two days. A page-turner that‘s full of heart. #TransGirlApril #LGBTQ #comics

Pickpick

Arielle Twist, a trans Cree woman from George Gordon First Nation in Saskatchewan, describes her debut poetry as raw and unfiltered. The poems are about grief, displacement, dating, sex and relationships. This book received the Dayne Ogilvie Prize and the Indigenous Voices Award. #Canadian #LGBTQ #TransGirlApril #poetry

If You're a Kid Like Gavin | Kyle Lukoff, Gavin Grimm
post image
Pickpick

Trans rights are in the news and this picture book about real-life trans activist Gavin Grimm is an excellent way to open a discussion on the topic with readers in middle school. Gavin is a trans boy and, with the help of the ACLU, he fought for his right to use the boy‘s bathroom at school. Appealing art by J Yang and a positive message about fighting for what you believe in. #LGBTQ #TransGirlApril #kidlit

ChaoticMissAdventures Very timely to read, the House just passed a trans sport ban today. I know the Senate will not take it up but it is just too much. 12mo
