Kallocain | Karin Boye
post image

This little known novel by Swiss author Boye was published between Brave New World & 1984, Kallocain takes its title after the drug which is developed & is named after the creator/narrator. Kallocain will not only compel people to tell the truth, but will reveal their thoughts/feelings. Although I have read other explorations of individuality vs community in dystopians, Boye's poetic & mesmerizing monologues (CONT)

vivastory of those subjected to Kallocain injections & their visions of a better world made this stand out. (edited) 2d

Pickpick

Pontius Pilate offered the people a choice (to keep his own hands clean): The Messiah or Barabbas. Pilate was sure no one wanted to free Barabbas, but he was wrong. No one talks about how this substitution affected Barabbas. What made him worth this 2nd chance? What if he just can‘t make himself believe? I love this short search for identity. Excellent read. 239/1,001 #1001Books December‘s #TBRTarot: author whose last name begins w/ “L”

Pickpick

I've only just discovered this series about Swedish lawyer Rebekka Martinsson who in bk 2 I recovering from the trauma inbthe 1st volume so edge's back into work by going to help sort out a church's financial issues. Inevitably, she gets drawn into a dark tale in which police officer Anna Maria returns. This is a well told story with a character I am enjoying, so I'm looking forward to book 3.

I‘m posting one book a day from my massive collection. No description, no reason for why I want to read it (some I‘ve had so long I don‘t even remember why!) Feel free to join in!

Mehso-so

Not as good as I had heard but will probably read more of the series because it shares with me the path my ancestors came to America and to Minnesota.
