Pickpick

My third Capote. This one's somewhat different from the other two I know. The text is unfinished, the afterword explains, why. Even though I already know that I won't remember the story, I still consider it a Pick, because it was an enjoyable journey into the world of Americas Rich and Famous.

Pickpick

A fictional take on the affairs between Marilyn Monroe & the Kennedy brothers. I love anything MM or JFK related, but I didn‘t expect this to be much good, so I was surprised how readable this was.

The brief sex scenes made me cringe a bit, & attitudes are somewhat dated (it was published over 25 years ago) but for the most part, the author portrayed the characters fairly well. Rating: 4🌟

Roman à clef translates as “Novel with a key.” It‘s a book that‘s based on real events, but the names, dates, incriminating details, etc. have been changed.

This is not a very old copy of Little House, but the one from my childhood, so I treasure it! Being on a mailing list for the series was a highlight of my early reading life. #romanaclef #oldcoolbooks

LeahBergen A huge childhood favourite of mine, as well. ❤️ 6y

batsy These books were a big part of my childhood ❤️ 6y
Linsy @RadicalReader I wasn‘t sure if it counted, but found it listed a few places online. As I understand it, the books have at them a kernel of truth — Laura Ingalls Wilder‘s childhood on the American frontier — but are then romanticized or embellished as fit the story. I find her fascinating! 6y
ReadZenRites I heard sometime that Nellie Olsen‘s name had been fictionalized for the book & show bc the real life Olsens were really quite nasty but maybe not as bad as portrayed. 🤓 6y

The Bell Jar is considered a #romanaclef with Esther Greenwood's descent into madness paralleling Plath's own.

OK, it's not really old since it was published in 1983, but Nora Ephron's Heartburn, is a Roman a clef that I have on my shelves. I have the pink edition, which I like, but I think the original cover on the left is cooler.😎We read this one for my virtual foodie book club and I made a Curried Shrimp & Butternut Squah Bisque as my book-inspired dish. I was particularly happy with my 🍤❤️garnish! 🤣

Cinfhen OMG!!! The heart in the soup 🍜 you‘re awesome 🤩🤩🤩 6y
