Straight Man

DrexEdit I recommend Nobody‘s Fool (with the Paul Newman movie), Straight Man, or Bridge of Sighs. I‘ve heard Interventions is good, but I haven‘t read it yet. 3y

so-so

I don't know why I keep thinking I'll like these kinds of books. I see they are best-sellers with positive reviews and I convince myself I'm missing out. But I didn't connect with the characters at all, and I thought the story was stupid. Yes, stupid. And parts were just plain boring. "So-so" because I can see why others might like it. It's just not for me.

Zakia I get the exact same feeling sometimes. Ignore the hype. Some stories are meant for movies, others don't do well as novels. 8y

BookGirl1313 Hype is often overrated. As a bookseller, I almost never read these overly-loved books because they sell themselves so I don't have to. Very seldom have I regretted passing them over--so many books, way WAY too little time! Read what you want, not what the masses/your friends/reviewers/every blogger on the planet/bestseller lists "tell" you to read. My 2 cents! 8y

BookGirl1313 &, btw, saw the movie--not only didn't make me want to read the book but also made me question those who raved about it. Horrible unlikable characters I wanted to punch dead in the face. 8y

Godmotherx5 I agree with @BookGirl1313 I saw the movie last weekend & was not impressed. I'm glad I had not read the book. Others may like it & that's fine. Books offer that option. 8y
