Pickpick

This was my mom‘s pick for our #mummydaughterbookclub and I won‘t lie, I wasn‘t looking forward to it. I‘m a bit maxed out on historical fiction taking place in the world wars, particularly since many of them seem to romanticize what it was like. But, this one didn‘t seem to do that the same way some others had. Overall, a good pick if that sort of book is up your alley but not a must-read if it‘s not.

What a weird day - it felt like 35° with the humidex and it‘s October 1. In Canada. And then it clouded over and the skies opened and we had the loudest thunderstorm we‘ve had in ages. Anyway. Focusing on the weather helps me forget how many books I‘ve got leftover from September - those, my #GirlyBookClub book, my #MummyDaughterBookClub book and four more #readmyowndamnbooks books are my #OctoberTBR.

Alwaysbeenaloverofbooks It‘s still high 90‘s here!! 🥵🥵 2mo
janeycanuck @Alwaysbeenaloverofbooks whaaaa?? That‘s nuts. The temp has been falling steadily here, we‘re going to get down to 13 today, which is more normal for us. Hope you get some relief soon!! 2mo
Alwaysbeenaloverofbooks Oh wow!!! Our high today is 96 and low is 70!!! 2mo

Another delicious meeting of #MummyDaughterBookClub. We all loved The Huntress, though I‘ve clearly been reading too many thrillers because when Nina first appeared, I was convinced she was the Huntress in disguise. Not so much!

swishandflick Yum! 😋 3mo
Tamra Oh you lucky ladies! Books and delicious tidbits! 3mo
mhillis That looks delicious!! 3mo
janeycanuck @swishandflick @Tamra @mhillis It was so good! Loved every morsel 😊 3mo

It was #MummyDaughterBookClub unveiling day today!

Each year, my sister and I get our mother a book club for Mother‘s Day. We each pick a book, which gets revealed whenever we celebrate Mother‘s Day (a week early this year because of my sister‘s work schedule) and we host our pick in our respective cities throughout the year.

My pick was The Huntress - I loved The Alice Network so Quinn‘s new one was a no-brainer.

kspenmoll The Huntress was riveting- I listened to it on audio. 7mo
janeycanuck @kspenmoll oh good! I picked it without reading anything about it, hoping it was as good as The Alice Network 7mo

Entirely unpopular opinion but I couldn‘t stand this. I physically started gagging at one point and found the entire book entirely depressing with no hope or joy anywhere to be found. If it wasn‘t my mother‘s pick for #mummydaughterbookclub, I absolutely would have stopped reading it.

Cinfhen Soooo happy to see this review!!! I really hated this book too. 12mo

Okay, Littens... Need some insight - I‘m 106 pages into this, I just read something that literally made me gag. Any other book and I‘d have dumped it 25-50
pages ago but this is my #mummydaughterbookclub book and it was my mom‘s pick. Does it get better or is this pretty much the tone for the whole book?

sprainedbrain Oh boy... this one is still on my pile to read, and you‘re making me nervous. 😬 13mo
janeycanuck @sprainedbrain I looked at a bunch of the Litsy reviews and everyone else seems to love it. I think I‘m the problem, not the book! 13mo
Tamra When I‘ve forced myself beyond the 100 page mark I‘ve been upset for wasting my time. 😐(I haven‘t read this novel, but speaking in general.) 13mo

Time for #NovemberTBR! Lots left over from October (and August... and September...) and a couple new pre-2018 TBRs in my never-ending quest to #readmyowndamnbooks plus my #girlybookclub book and my #mummydaughterbookclub book plus a couple #readharder challenge books. There‘s no way I‘m getting through them all but I‘m gonna give it a try!!

September (and if I‘m being honest, August) ended up not being a great reading month so my #OctoberTBR is massive! I‘ve got a library book, three TBRs from August, 4 TBRs from September, a comic for my #readharder challenge, 4 more books for my quest to #readmyowndamnbooks and my #girlybookclub book, which handily is also my #mummydaughterbookclub book for November. There‘s no way I‘ll get through them all but I‘m gonna try!

Nebklvr Good luck! 1y

My #boutofbooksTBR looks suspiciously like my #AugustTBR... I‘ve only finished one paper book, which was replaced with a library hold but I have knocked out a couple of audios, included the tagged book, which I finished today. I really need to buckle down and read this week, the top book is for #mummydaughterbookclub on Sun, 2nd is for #girlybookclub next Tues and the bottom two are still in progress since July!

A bit late with my #AugustTBR... I‘ve got a library hold that came in, 1 left over from July, 4 more books for my never ending quest to #readmyowndamnbooks (one of them is for #mummydaughterbookclub), my #girlybookclub book, the last three for my #13books13weeks challenge, a couple for my #ReadHarder challenge and a #BOTMbuddyread - another busy month!!
