Lizzie Borden, a Case Book of Family and Crime in the 1890s | Joyce G. Williams, J. Eric Smithburn, Mildred Jeanne Peterson

#AllHallowsRead I became fascinated with Lizzie Borden as a teenager and then (just a few years ago) spent a night at her house with my best friend... in one of the murder rooms. Eeeee! (Note the souvenir shot glass 😂) #FavoriteScaryNonfiction

Hobbinol Okay so I have to ask: any bumps in the night?😱 7y
readeatretreat I would love to do that! 7y
MMenefee Your overnight sounds too cool! 7y

TheLudicReader Did you ever read Evan Hunter's novel Lizzie? Super good. 7y
ApoptyGina69 Wow! I have a number of books about her too, but not this one. Told ya we are cut of the same cloth! 🤗How's the bday going?🍰 7y
thec0zy Have you ever read the Borden Dispatches by Cherie Priest? They're a paranormal retelling of Lizzie Borden's exploits and very well-written! 7y
LeahBergen @Hobbinol Well, my friend locked me in the cellar and turned the lights out. I was probably making a bunch of "bumps in the night" while I thrashed around in terror. 7y
LeahBergen @preteavivre Definitely do it if you get the chance! 7y
LeahBergen @MMenefee It was! And pretty freaky, I might add. 7y
LeahBergen @TheLudicReader Yes!!! I read it way, way back and loved it! 😀 7y
LeahBergen @ApoptyGina69 It's a good overview of the legal parts of the case. I bought it at Lizzie's house and my friend and I read parts out loud to each other at night when we stayed there. 7y
LeahBergen @ApoptyGina69 Oh, and the bday has been EXHAUSTING. Ha!! Thank you. 7y
LeahBergen @thec0zy No! I will check them out. Thanks! 7y
Hobbinol OMG! I'm surprised you still call them your friend! On another note, if you were the one with the birthday, of course I have best wishes for you! 7y
RadicalReader @LeahBergen how was it staying inside the haunted room of Lizzie Borden? 7y

I find nonfiction to be generally more terrifying than fiction because I can't convince myself that the evil doesn't exist. It does, and nowhere is that more obvious to me than in the Stanford Prison Experiment. The speed with which "normal" people turned into monsters and victims was astonishing and horrifying. #AllHallowsRead #ScaryReads #favoritescarynonfiction

#AllHallowsRead #photoadaychallenge #scaryreads #favoritescarynonfiction I seriously tossed up whether I'd use my haunting books or my true crime coz serial killers & the horror humans can do to each other can be so much more scary than anything paranormal, but I love my ghosts. I was first addicted to hauntings after I had my own experience then read The Amityville Horror. Since then I've read anything I could find & been on many ghost tours.👻

Pickpick

Shirley Jackson giving us the story of the Salem Witchcraft trials? Yes, please. What could be more frightening than her take on repression, mores and teenage evilinas? Not much, really. #favoritescarynonfiction #AllHallowsRead

DiruVamp Omg why did I not know this existed?! 👏🏻🎉🤓 7y
Scurvygirl I love the evil smile! "Yes, I'm a witch" smirk! 7y
