This was absolutely crap.
I've just spent an hour explaining why on Goodreads, but I'm contemplating deleting my review because it isn't at all tactful.
Seriously though, it's not often that I get this salty over a book.

PAN INCOMING!
I've always maintained the best YA transcends the genre. This does not. It's histrionic teen drama at its most self-centered & emotionally stunted. The characters are clichés, the responses predictable, the action minimal, the development virtually non-existent. Does the FMC fall for the bad boy with a tragic backstory & a heart of gold? Why, yes, she does - how DID you know?! Intriguing premise wasted, this was shallow & boring.
Boring..simply just boring. I don‘t even know how I finished it but I did and the ending made me even more unhappy that I didn‘t DNF it. I‘ve loved Hawkins other books but this one for me was truly a dud.

A Secret history earned this spot without trouble.

Disappointed that this was more like a novella than a full length series intro. The pace was too quick for believability & lacked true depth. I won‘t be carrying on this series.
I wanted to love this after how much I adored Such Sharp Teeth, but I did not. Sloane is so wishywashy, her best friend Naomi is a frustrating hot mess but I would have liked the book better if it followed her. I didn‘t care about the romance subplot with probably-not-dracula. There‘s no metaphor here, the beginning had Sloane reflecting on time slipping & her obsession with aging but that falls away as the action starts. I didn‘t get it. 🧛🏻♀️
Poetry just isn't my thing. I absolutely love The Bell Jar, but I would need to take a class to understand her poems, and even then, I think I would struggle. I'm glad that I finally read this short book, even though it took #BookSpin to get me to pick it up. At least now it's #OffMyShelf
Canada Reads. Book 3. How did this even make the list?! I almost bailed, but I thought no, there must be more to it. Maybe I‘m wrong. So I read it all. I was not wrong. It fits the formula of a thriller. But it‘s not thrilling. It‘s boring and predictable and I regret wasting my time. I also have no idea how it fits the theme of changing the narrative.
Did not like this at all. I found the dialogue particularly bad - the characters spoke to one another in a manner that seemed all belligerent "F**k you!"s and zero meaningful communication. A lot of the sexual detail is totally gratuitous (an ejaculations count?! Every time?!) and really unsexy. And the characters are self-absorbed, one dimensional & immature. Even worse - they're just not that interesting! And they don't develop much either ??
