I received this book in the mail today from Celadon Books. This is a physical ARC of a book that was released on April 18, 2023. This book sounds interesting to me. I‘m looking forward to reading it. This book came with a book club kit. This would be great for book clubs to read together. I used to be in a book club in real life and if I was still in that club, I could suggest this book to them.

Pickpick

This is a soft pick for me. It‘s a a melancholy, unsettling book. The setting is an imaginary town, high in the mountains. It‘s so near the mountaintop that the clouds settle in there during the evenings. Elsewhere feels as elusive as those mountaintop clouds. It‘s just slightly inside the fog, which means readers never fully understand the town or its inhabitants.

This conversation between Abrams and Goodall ranges far and wide, while still primarily focusing on its subject. Goodall believes that hope includes action, not just wishful thinking. And there are four specific reasons to remain hopeful despite news coverage of Earth‘s “dumpster fires.” It‘s a bit Polyanna, but mostly optimistic. Short but strongly positive.

kamoorephoto I‘m insanely jealous that a fellow animal rescue friend of mine got to meet her not that long ago. Jane Goodall is an absolute idol of mine and an absolute gift to this earth. 3y
BarbaraTheBibliophage @kamoorephoto ZOMG. That must have been amazing! 3y
Riveted_Reader_Melissa @kamoorephoto I would be insanely jealous too! 3y

Love People Use Things: Because the Opposite Never Works | Joshua Fields Millburn, Ryan Nicodemus

Pickpick

This is a book about how to have better relationships. On the way to that topic, Millburn and Nicodemus explain that focusing too much on stuff and what it costs keeps you from deepening your relationships. The advice here ranges from “know your truths and values” to don‘t keep stuff “just in case you need it again.” The white guy privilege shows too. 3.0 / 5.0 stars.
