#MidsummerSolace #TimeforTea

It's time for a weekly catch-up. I hope you are all well and have had a good 2025 so far.

🍵 How are you?
🍵 Any summer plans?
🍵 Do you have good recommendations for books/movies/tv/games/apps?

@TheBookHippie @Chrissyreadit

TheBookHippie Omg I watched The Tylenol Murders on Netflix. EYE OPENING. (Lots of triggers) I do believe it was the company!!! Just creepy. https://www.netflix.com/title/81757969 (edited) 3d
TheBookHippie Hanging in there. Trying to keep hope alive. 3d
Librarybelle I‘m here—that‘s pretty much my mental state at this point! 😂 3d

Bookwormjillk What @Librarybelle and @TheBookHippie said. I‘m listening to and enjoying the audiobook for 3d
peaKnit I actually made iced tea yesterday, I must have intuited tea time lol! I watched a new 5 part doc on Netflix on Vietnam. It was interesting, and frustrating. I also read Wally Lamb‘s new gut punch, I mean book, The River is waiting. I‘d recommend both but with trigger warnings. I‘m seeing Pedro Pascal‘s new movie today in an attempt to pump up the joy. 2d

I picked up this concept art for work at the LQ auction in 2023. I was already stoked, but then Vo added this sweet card AND sent me a holiday card. I put the art on display, but I can‘t way to integrate it more meaningfully into programming.

Pickpick

One of those titles where the apostrophe is key.

A moving memoir of the author's reconnection with her Eritrean family, after international adoption.

The author points out in the afterword that since she wrote the book, Eritrea's political situation has worsened, making her hope to live in Asmara unlikely: but it's clear this was a life changing experience.

The trouble with the dead is that no one will speak ill of them.

All the research into adoptees tracing their birth parents harps on about the fear of repeated rejection. That's rich. For a start it makes it sound like the rejection is all in the adoptee's head. Which it isn't, it's a fact. My family didn't keep me.

The room is suddenly filled with emotion. We are all thinking the same thing: it could just as easily be me standing here with a limp from a bullet in my hip, and Aster standing in my place.

This book was so good! A gothic, forest setting with a Caraval-style magic system. I loved that the families were named for trees, and I loved the rhyming way the nightmare spoke. Can't wait for the next one.

A Day in the Sun | Diana Ejaita

Releasing all of the new books at work has made me more inclined to read more children‘s books in the meantime.

This is an adorable book about what the sun does for people all around the world ☀️; looking at it possibly being read for the summer reading kickoff! 📚
