Pickpick

A fascinating and satisfying read based on the true story of a group of American women who worked in France during WWI to ease the suffering of the French people. Told as a dual timeline story, I thought at first that the contemporary story was weak, but changed my mind as the plots drew together. The author also provides extensive information on the historical characters. Definitely worth reading.

Narratively, I am enjoying this one, although it's pretty early to make any real calls. Physically, on a book-as-object level, there is something I find irksome about it, although I'm not sure what. I may have to switch over to the ebook (or wait for the paperback).

Erinreadsthebooks I‘m intrigued by the “book-as-object” evaluation. I‘ve probably dnf-ed some books based on that and didn‘t even realize the root of the problem! 😄 3h
