This is my reward for decorating the house today. 🧑🏻🎄
I‘ve tried multiple times to read Blake‘s books. I can‘t get very far into them. They seem emblematic of a trend in urban fantasy and dark academia that I deeply dislike. To wit, it‘s just wealthy people. Wealthy people who are into finance, and finance is somehow magic? Its boring. The magic they do, their concerns, their relationships are deeply uninteresting. But I haven‘t finished any of her books. Maybe they get better?

Meh. I tried. Too big of a book to read about whiny and unlikeable characters with a very slow plot. I‘ll give other books by this author a shot but this one wasn‘t for me. If you like really messy family dynamics with unlikeable characters you may enjoy this more than I did.
It‘s basically the TV show “Succession” with magic and some interesting stylistic choices; pretty entertaining, though!

Even with the antics from three 1%er siblings the writing in this story is sharp and witty enough that I didn‘t bother disliking them. I‘m also intrigued by stories where the delivery of the narrator outshines the characters - and this narrator was hoot. However, I don‘t think this story required 500+ pages and would‘ve liked it more had 100 or so pages been edited out.

My FairyLoot edition of the new Olivie Blake is here! I've been excited to read this book and since I finished my last book last night, I'm starting this one now.

Sinking into a new Olivie Blake book is always so delightful! I'm only about 80 pages in and I'm already hooked! 😍

Tidying up for company caused me to create this stack of random books. The tagged book caught my eye and I've discovered a huge pet peeve I didn't realize I had- am I the only one who's annoyed about the author's name overshadowing the title. 🤔😖

My co-worker who normally covers our books is gone on vacation this week, so I'm covering the books I cataloged. Discovered this under the cover of Gifted & Talented.😁

I wasn't into any of the main picks for #botm for April, so I skipped even though I really want to get my hands on Gifted & Talented by Olivie Blake. Fingers crossed for some good picks in May!!!
